Any CFPs here or experienced investment reps that are independent of sponsors?

This may be odd and probably nobody here but...

I have friends in Toronto and friends of friends that keep telling me they wish they could find an advisor like me. However, I can not do business in Canada just like most of your professionals can not do business in the U.S. As folks may know I have been visiting Toronto for the last about 20 years.

I plan to attend the CIFCP conference for CFPs (Canadian version) on retirement planning April 20th in Toronto. I will probably stay a week for potential meetings and of course, enjoy what I usually do in Toronto. I actually had booked a trip for a week to Montreal but have canceled it for now. I usually don't go to Canada until May or June when its warmer but am interested in this conference and I miss Canada!

I realize your investment options, structure and regulations are quite different than in the US and what I have been successful in for 40 years in business may be very different in Canada. I would like to find some like minded advisors in Toronto (and maybe Montreal) to suggest for my Canadian friends. And perhaps they may know U.S. friends of clients that they can not serve. A potentially mutually beneficial referral potential. This may be a dream but thought I would toss it out.

About me: Nerdy, CPA background, FINRA registered principal, OSJ, own RIA, long ago owned my own small broker-dealer with about 100 reps in six states. CFP since 1998. DO NOT do Fee-only planning which is the most expensive way to get investment advice for long term investors, not traders. I warn against ETFs (have extensive white paper) and think index investing is silly vs. managers with long term track record of excess Alpha vs Beta (out performance for risk taken).
