Coronavirus cuts China’s CO2 emissions by 100 million metric tonnes

Here is one positive outcome of the epidemic. Less CO2
emission from China is welcome. It means more jet fuel freed
up and a greater CO2 emission budget for us in the rest of
the world.

Carbon dioxide emissions in China have fallen by around 100 million metric tonnes because of the coronavirus, according to a new report conducted by the climate non-profit Carbon Brief.

It claims that the amount of reduced carbon dioxide emissions is close to what Chile emits in a year.

The calculated drop in carbon dioxide is based on fossil-fuel consumption data by sector for February 2019 and by estimating year-on-year changes for a five-year period.

The report suggests the reduction in emissions is mostly a result of lower output from oil refineries and lower coal use for power generation as most businesses and factories are shut during the period of the coronavirus outbreak.

It says that several sector activity indicators had been taken into consideration to estimate the change in the country’s environmental impact after the emergence of the virus, including the daily coal consumption at power plants, coking plants, blast furnaces, steel plants and oil refineries.

In the two-week period commencing 3rd February this year, average coal consumption at power plants fell to a four-year low, with no sign of recovery as of 16th February.

Individual Canadians are way bigger polluters than the
Chinese people. Many a typical middle class Chinese
household still could not afford car ownership. Many
who do rarely drive as far as an average Canadian.

You should already know Greta has the answer. She remarked
Trump, the leader of world's biggest polluter, is not worth
talking to. The U.S. along with Russia, China and India are not
on her list of polluters. She has the ears of the U.N and respect
of the world's environmentalists. Taking cue from her, two
big polluters of the world are Norway and Canada to whom she
demanded crude oil production to be stopped. She and a bunch
of other kids have filed climate lawsuit against five of the world's
biggest CO2 emitters. She has inspired if not instigated and
participated in climate school strikes in Sweden,
Germany and the U.K. She has
also attacked Roger Federer for his support of coal mining
in Austrralia. Taken together the world's real polluters according
to the world's leader of climate change movement are Sweden,
Canada, Norway, France , Brazil, Germany, Turkey, Argentina and
Australia.

The treasury secretary of the U.S. was mocked for his
suggestion to Greta to go back to school to pursue an
economy degree in response to her advices on economic
policy for the energy industry to world leaders. Go tell
Greta's supporters she should go back to school for child
of special needs and see what happens. You too will be
mocked, labelled a climate denier and questioned why you
are so afraid of a child.
