Savage Cruelty, backwards swine...
A spokesperson for Afghanistan's president, Ashraf Ghani says the sickening footage from Ghor is the work of the Taliban, branding it an act of "cruelty and atrocity".
In the sickening scenes, which Sun Online has decided not to share, the woman can be seen cowering in a dirt hole and covering herself while she is pelted with stones by a huge crowd of men.
The throng does not relent as she screams out in pain.
Some of the men also shout "Allahu Akbar" as they torture the helpless woman.
The Taliban claim the video is from 2015, however - citing an infamous clip of a woman named Rokhshana who was stoned to death allegedly for committing adultery, also in Ghor province.
Stoning is illegal under the Afghan constitution, but seen as a "legitimate punishment" within the Taliban and their controlled areas.
Sediq Sediqqi, a spokesman for president Ashraf Ghani said: "I am utterly shocked and saddened after I watched a video on Twitter in which a group of Taliban is stoning an innocent woman.
"Taliban's cruelty and atrocity under the name of Islam is a crime against humanity".
And refuting the Taliban's claims of the old clip, activist Farangies Shah said: "Yesterday [the Taliban] stoned a woman in Ghor, tomorrow such acts will reach the shores of the US.
"Don't forget, you can appease the oppressor but their roots will spread and the problem will persist".
Meanwhile, prominent activist Laila Haidari collated the claims.
She said: "The intensity of their violence and what they can do against women in the absence of law and order is clearly visible.
"We have to think about how we can stand up against this approaching horror".
Afghan officials are investigating the clip, with the human rights commission telling RFERL they were working on establishing the video's date, and why the woman was killed.
