You wouldn't know it from all the Jurrasic Parks that popped up globally during the NBA playoffs. Prime Minister Trudeau is canvassing African States to get Canada a seat on the UN Security Council and he's brought Masai Ujiri with him. It should be a no-brainer, the UN wouldn't exist today without Lester B Pearson...from Toronto.
Toronto's production houses are setting the standard for quality. I've been streaming Orphan Black, a show produced and shot almost entirely in Toronto. As Michael Palin said in Life of Brian, "Oh what I wouldn't give to be spattered in the face by Tatiana Maslany".
When you are in the celebrity business, you must always be visible. To quote Oscar Wilde "The only thing worse than being talked about, is not being talked about."
Don't forget that when Madonna was a superstar in the 1980s, her life was an open book- but only the things she wanted the public to know. Who remembers the nude photos that she signed away her rights to? When they appeared in a magazine she lawyered up, but then was told she had no right to prevent their publication. At that point she made lemonaid. She got in front of it and said to the world 'I am not ashamed of my body, ' and then she published the picture book titled 'Sex.'
...and this, coming from someone who lives in the U.S.A.! I never found this "has been" to be interesting in any way. She's a publicity hog and if she never entered our country again, that would be fine with me.
Having travelled internationally on a frequent basis, I'm always impressed at the reaction that I get when I say that I'm from Canada. It's always very positive and people often tell me about how much they enjoyed their trip to Toronto. We always get a good reception and it's interesting to hear this in the most unexpected places. This is particularly amusing to me given the contempt that other parts of this country have for YYZ and their need to express it. They're trained from birth to openly bad mouth this city, but it seems that we have a great image with people all over the globe.
They'll sign onto some charitable causes, go to cocktail parties and within a year, they'll have their own talk show / reality show and make $ millions!!
This is the logical next step for presenting the Royal Family as a media commodity.
