I agree, 100%One major issue appears to be the unwillingness of the teachers to offer any concessions whatsoever. Hard to negotiate when one side is completely inflexible.
Actually that seems to be the domain of the private schools. The good ones make your kid work until they earn their 75% but many others are simply pay for play....
Not to say this is on the teachers. Its not there fault you can't fail a student in grade 12....
If Dougie was popular and had a strong personal connection with the voters, he could do it and win. With a shrinking support base and no public personality whatsoever, he's going to lose support whatever he does. So he's fucked. He shouldn't have picked a battle that was unwinnable.
Now it's just getting ugly and the Liberals are going to roast him over the fire for it.
It's too late. The province is already fucked. Far easier to give away concessions than to claw them back. We've had DECADES of irresponsibility. Of vote buying. Even if Ford was ten times the man he is, he couldn't save this province from itself.Teachers got whatever they wanted from the Liberal government. Now they are being faced with someone who has the balls to say no. The public sector Unions are great at PR. They will threaten your kids future to get what they want. Nurse's Unions do the same.Threatening you and your families well being.
Let them find out what reality is really like.
Before negotiations even began, he told the teachers what their raise will be, that their class sizes will be increasing by 6 and that further jobs will be slashed by forcing the students to get credits by taking online courses. These things should be decided at the bargaining table. Any chance of having the teachers 'play nice' or conceding was clusterfucked from the outset by Lord Clusterfuck in a way that only he can clusterfuck things. One major issue appears to be the unwillingness of the teachers to offer any concessions whatsoever. Hard to negotiate when one side is completely inflexible.
That's a weird argument. Usually both sides give their starting positions before bargaining starts. The bargaining table is for, you know, bargaining. Before negotiations even began, he told the teachers what their raise will be, that their class sizes will be increasing by 6 and that further jobs will be slashed by forcing the students to get credits by taking online courses. These things should be decided at the bargaining table.
