Aurora man, 36, now charged with impaired causing death

Investigators with the York Regional Police Major Collision Investigation Unit have laid impaired driving causing death charges in connection with a collision in the City of Vaughan.

On Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2019, at approximately 10:45 p.m., police responded to reports of a collision at Major Mackenzie Drive West and Fossil Hill Road.

Officers determined that a black Toyota Sequoia struck a grey Hyundai Santa Fe within the intersection.

Three people inside the Hyundai Santa Fe were taken to hospital with what were believed to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the black Toyota Sequoia was arrested at the time for impaired driving and several charges were laid.

While in hospital, the condition of one occupant of the Hyundai, a 68-year-old woman from the City of Brampton, worsened. On Jan. 23, 2020, she sadly passed away in hospital as a result of complications from her injuries. As a result, the charges against the accused have been upgraded.

The accused will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Feb. 4, 2020.
