If I remember right, someone here was visibly excited that barely 50% wanted him impeached.

It's kinda SAD, isn't it..... when after almost 4 fucking years in office, the sad old fuck still can't break the 50% plateau..... something that other presidents did routinely. I mean, what was Obama's mean average approval rating??? A LOT higher than 49%, I betcha.

It's come to the weepy-weepy point where Wyatt and OTB crack out the champagne when the SOF hits 49%. Hold on, guys. He..... may.... actually.... make.... 50. But probably not. I'm guessing we're gonna drop off a little to the mid 40's.

It is noteworthy that Trump has hit his highest approval level yet in Gallup's polling while the impeachment process was in full swing.

Chalk up another one for that "master strategist," Nancy Pelosi. :biggrin1:

Your knowledge of recent U.S. history is seriously lacking.

From CNN: Donald Trump just got the best polling news of his presidency

Even CNN is on the Trump train!!

https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/04/politics/donald-trump-gallup-poll/index.html

"But it's not just among Republicans where Trump's numbers have improved. His approval among independents in this latest Gallup poll is 42% -- up 5 points from where he was among this group in January and tied for his highest mark ever among unaffiliateds.
Those gains likely have less to do with impeachment -- although it's worth noting that 52% of all respondents in Gallup think Trump should be acquitted in the Senate trial -- than they do with the continued strength of the economy. More than 6 in 10 people now approve of the job Trump is doing with the economy, which is both the best Trump has ever done on that question and the highest mark for any president on it since George W. Bush in the immediate aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. (Bush overall approval numbers shot to 90% following the attacks.)
Combine Republicans rallying even more closely to Trump during impeachment and independents started to come around on Trump due to the perceived strength of the economy and you see how Trump has reached new polling heights. And while these numbers obviously don't factor in the utter mess of the Iowa caucuses that played out on national TV Monday night, it's hard not see how that chaos doesn't help Trump too."

Thanks Nancy and fellow Dumbocrats!

"Trump's current 49% approval puts him ahead of where his predecessor -- Barack Obama -- was at this same time in his first term. (Obama was at 46% approval.) Which is absolutely remarkable, given the first 3+ years of Trump's presidency and the fact that he became just the third president in American history to be impeached by the House last month."

Obama's mean over the 8byears he was in office was 47.9%.
He had a W pattern.
I will concede Obama got more popular as the end of his Presidency came nearer and he couldn't run again.

The point is that Obama and other recent Presidents operated quite regularly during their tenure with sub-50% approval ratings. Another point is that Obama was under 50% at the beginning of his fourth year in office.

I think that can be explained by being compared to some idyllic, abstract
opponent. Once an opponent is defined by the other party the choice for voters crystallizes.
