Bill Barilko. Died in a plane crash shortly after scoring the Stanley Cup winning goal. Even 40 years after his death a song was written about him.
I think it was a hunting or fishing trip and the plane crashed in the remote bush. It was more than a few years, though. They didn't find it until the next time the Leafs won the Cup, in '62. (cue the Twilight Zone music).Wow, this whole time I thought it was a car crash. Thought the car plunged into a river and nobody knew which is why they didn't find them for a few years. Didn't realize it was a plane crash.
His Stanley Cup ring.I'm surprised that Bill Barilko was found at all, and a bit dubious. He crashed in the deep bush north of Cochrane Ontario. His remains would have been eaten by wolves and bears, until nothing was left. How they identified him, I have no idea.

I was thinking along those lines as I posted but, unlike you, I decided to keep it clean. LOLIt was thicker than a 70's porn bush.
I did do the research favorite of The Soup Nazi.Do some research.
Spent some time in Otter Rapids, Fraserdale, Abitibi Canyon. Not exactly the middle of nowhere, but you can see it from there.I did do the research favorite of The Soup Nazi.
His plane went down north of Cochrane which is further north of Timmins. The plane went down near MacParlon Lake, the next closest town is Otter Rapids on the Abitibi River.
