Tucker Carlson Delivers GOP a Warning: Bernie Sanders Could Win ‘Many Thousands’ of Trump Voters

By Josh Feldman
Jan 20th, 2020, 9:08 pm

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson warned Republicans tonight about how 2020 isn’t in the bag for them and how Bernie Sanders in particular could beat President Donald Trump and even win over some of his supporters.

“Republicans are starting to think that victory is assured, and that’s a mistake,” he said. “America remains as divided as it was three years ago… Trump could lose. Will he lose? Well, that depends entirely what he runs on.”

Carlson said Trump’s “MAGA” message clearly resonated with voters who saw Trump as someone who could solve their problems.

The economic numbers now, Carlson said, are good but things are “not fixed”:

“The big numbers — unemployment and inflation, to name two— tell one story, and it’s a good story. But dig a little deeper. A Pew poll from this fall provides a glimpse of what is actually happening in a lot of parts of the country. In that survey, 56 percent of Americans said the economy was excellent or good. And that’s good news. But then there was this: only 31 percent said the economy was helping them and their families. Just 32 percent thought the current economy was helping the middle class. 58 percent thought the opposite. Among lower-income Republicans, 47 percent said economic conditions were hurting them. Just 30 percent said they were helping. Now, keep in mind, these aren’t sociology professors from the Oberlin faculty lounge. This is the president’s core, it’s his base… For a lot of middle class people, wages aren’t keeping pace with expenses. Child care, housing, education, health care — they’re all getting more expensive by the year.”

He argued that “the candidate who makes it easier for 30-year-olds to get married and have kids will win the election and deserve to win,” which brought him around to Sanders:

“Bernie Sanders may get the Democratic nomination. And if he does, every Republican in Wasington will spend the next ten months reminding you that socialism does not work and never has. And they’ll be right, obviously. But if Sanders pledges to forgive student loans, he will still win many thousands of voters who went for Donald Trump last time. Why? Because debt is crushing an entire generation of Americans. Republicans need to make a plan to make it better, or they will be left behind.”

think is virtuous. They’re promising to undo our justice system, emptying our prisons, even as they undermine the police and strip you of the right to defend yourself. They’re openly inviting chaos,” he added.

I'm quite looking forward to Iowa. I think there will be a big surprise.

40% of voters are still undecided.

I don’t know why, it’s a proportional vote in a Trump state.

I really wonder what Democrats and Liberals are going to do with their drama when Trump wins a second term. Can’t wait to see it.

If 70% of the voters want all the witnesses to testify and the evidence to be revealed in this Senate Trial of his, then that is significant. Especially, now that around 51% want him removed from office. The latest polls has Biden, Sanders, Warren and even Bloomberg with a comfortable lead over Trump if there were an election today. Wonder what the Republicans and Conservatives will do once Trump is no longer President after the 2020 elections??

I think Sanders is going to take a much larger proportion.
You people honestly believe that there's going to a spillover from Trump to Bernie? Look, you like Bernie, but you might be taking your love too far.

There is evidence that Sanders supporters did vote for Trump as a protest vote.

And Sanders supporters include alot of poor people. Who want healthcare. And to end the wars.

This is a class struggle. He can take the independents who voted for Trump.

The Trump voters have no reason to switch their allegiance. And, it's a long way from the Trump's demographic to Bernie's. What the DNC is really afraid of and the reason in trying to spike Bernie, is the simplest fact that in the general election Bernie is looking at maybe 30% support across all the counties. Even that estimate is probably high. Bernie is a Marxist and he will do well in the traditional Democrat counties, but will get slaughtered everywhere else. The DNC is not even counting on the anti Trump vote. With a great economy they are concluding, correctly, that it will not materialize.

Medicare for all? Stop the wars? End student debt?

Stop social security cuts?

All there for him to take it. Please note I'm leaving out identity politics and personal attacks.

If Sanders is still on the Green New Deal bandwagon then he won't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning. He should just do the most important thing, medicare for all, the rest of the stuff is not as important or detrimental.

Trump just talked about Medicare and Social Security bring on the table in the future at Davos.

That will make an excellent commercial.

The plan for Medicare is a pie in the sky. As soon as Bernie presents the bill, the Congress will run in the opposite direction. Neither will he get the money to cancel the student debt. The only way he can campaign on it against Trump is to promise to raise taxes. He endorsed the Green New Deal and will have to run on the open borders to maintain his base- he will get killed on it in the swing states. If he wins the nomination, the concentration of attention on his policies will guarantee a crossover of voters.... in the other direction. It will be a resurrection of the Reagan Democrats. American electorate is centrist at best and Bernie is a Marxist.

I think you are wrong. For the generation under 40 socialism is not a dirty word. They didn't grow up with the "Red Menace" mentality.

What they do know is income equality from an Ogliarchy and the internet has become the great leveler in both information exchange and campaign financing.

The Overton window starting shifting after the 2008 bailout. And has continued right up to now.

And Republicans only make up about 30+ % , as do Democrats.

Independent voters are now the biggest cohort. With Millenials now outnumbering Boomers for the first time.

Bernie kills with that demographic.

And now that Social Security and Medicare cuts are shaping up to be the latest talking points, them boomers won't be giving that up will they?

I will add the #1 issue with voters in every poll is Medicare. #2 is the environment. Look it up.

Your model is imo flawed and outdated.

In America climate does not even make it to top 5. In most of the swing states it doesn't even make it to top 10. Look it up. The healthcare is a loser for Bernie because Americans do not want a universal, single payer system. Oh, they like the concept, but as soon as they go into details, the support falls off. Don't get me wrong, healthcare will be an issue, especially affordability and access. Unfortunately, Bernie does not have an answer to the majority of Americans currently insured through their employers and they are not interested in the wholesale overhaul because they want the system reformed not changed- things like drug prices reductions, more reasonable premiums and more, not fewer, choices among the insurers and providers. Bernie doesn't know their language let alone understands their priorities. The Democrats instinctively and based on their internal polling know this and that's why they will do everything to stop him from getting a nomination. They will even get Obama to go on record to destroy any chance Bernie might have with the blacks.

Again. I think you are wrong in your assessment. 20 years ago yes.

But it's changed.

We can go back and forth on this.

The primaries will tell us who is right.
