Running a news network is a business. How journalists choose to conduct themselves is a business decision. Raju is a Liberal hack. Losing the trust of the vast majority of viewers is expensive. The press has changed radically. It is now operated by a handful of corporations and is completely beholden to their interests, whether those interests are circulation, ratings, advertising dollars, or public policy impacting upon their interests. Outside of low budget internet operations, there is no more "free and independant" press.
The cornerstone of Obama's presidency was built on lies. Where was the adversarial press, then?

You've got it backwards. If the press were not as adversarial maybe it was because whatever lies Obama told in 8 years were less than a tenth of a percent of the 15,000 trump has told in 3 years. Words matter.
