Well, if he heard the trash can, then he knew what pitch was coming. Maybe he wore ear plugs.
Who cares, but probably not much. The bookies like their bets evened out on both teams, which means they shouldn't care who wins, they make their guaranteed money regardless.
And if they did take a big hit, they have their own version of a "brush back pitch" and it probably hurts more than a Bob Gibson heater in the ribs.
