I recently purchased an old house and found a share certificate for an old mining company in Bancroft.

It has a "No. 0138" on it and it was incorporated under the laws of Ontario. The certificate of 10 shares was issued on May 17, 1955. It is in the name of the person who owned the house before I took over.

How do I find out if it is worth anything?

I searched the net for the mining company (Paudash Lake Uranium) but could not find anything.

Does anyone know how or where I could find more information?

TIA

Paradise by the dashboard light.
try to see if the company is still in existence or has changed name. if the company is no longer, than certificate has no trade value, but it can have a collector's value to a dealer

One way or the other, if it's worth something, it's pretty tough to cash it if it's in someone else's name. Kinda like trying to cash a cheque made out to your neighbour. There can be legal repercussions if you do try to deposit it somewhere (kinda like trying to cash a cheque made out to someone else...)

As far as I know, the only uranium mines near Bancroft are abandoned. If you want to find out more it may be worth calling the town of Bancroft and seeing if they could point you in the right direction to find out some history with that company, or uranium mining in general in the area.

Might try contacting "OntarioExplorations101" from this website: https://www.ontarioabandonedplaces.com/Bicroft-Uranium-Mine_loc15593.html

He or she has an article on a mining company about 3 KM north of Paudash Lake so maybe they have other research materials for the surrounding area.
