With the Australian Open approaching the question comes back. Will Serena win another major to equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 singles majors, or 25 to beat it. Hard to predict but I say she will win one more major to equal 24 but not win two to break the record.

Levels in tennis, which used to be Serena Williams on one and the rest of the field on another, have evened out since Williams left the game to have a baby after winning the 2017 Australian Open. Halep, in beating Williams, is one of only two players with multiple wins in major tournaments since that 2017 Australian Open (Naomi Osaka is the other), as nine different women have won the last 11 Grand Slam titles.

Halep and others represent the problems that Williams faces in her attempt to win her 24th Grand Slam singles title, which would tie the record held by Margaret Court. Multiple major winners have youth on their side, which Williams can’t control. But it’s hard to ignore Williams getting picked apart by players who are quicker and more powerful. With players on the horizon like 15-year-old Coco Gauff, who easily defeated Venus Williams in her Wimbledon debut, these outcomes will become the norm.

No. Too many young guns who are no longer intimidated by her. They can match her power (maybe not serving), are quicker and are in better shape.

One thing I will give to Serena, though, is that she still has the best tits.

I agree, I don't think she will win one either.

She has a better chance now that our Bianca has withdrawn due to an injury.
I think that at her age the adverse conditions may impact her more than an opponent 10-20 years younger.

With Coco Gauff playing Venus Williams again, eyes were immediately focused on that section of the draw - an exciting quarter which also features Serena Williams among a host of stand-out names

Serena takes on Russian 18-year-old Anastasia Potapova first as she aims for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam singles title, and could face Gauff or her older sister in the quarter-finals.

I think the larger question now is: When will Serena retire?.

A bad back forced her to retire from the Rogers Cup.

A loss in the U.S. Open finals.

Now a loss to the 27th seed at the Australian Open.

You know how determined Serena is. So far as she remains healthy, she is not retiring anytime soon.
Serena could be done, she had a difficult child birth and her lateral movement has been compromised. That's the risk she took having a child in her late 30's. Kim Clijsters temporarily retired to have a child, then returned to win two Slams. She was still in her 20's, the body isn't that elastic after 35 and Kim is 2 years younger than Serena.

Apart from many challenges Serena faces the biggest might be winning 6 matches against Grand Slam competition levels.
