First go to http://www.tvfool.com and use the TV Signal Locator tool.
This will tell you what channels are available, and help you to position the antenna.

http://www.saveandreplay.com/ (Kennedy Rd and Britannia) has good selection of antennas.
Of course YMMV, especially with an indoor antenna.

I went to buy one at The Source a year ago and the rep advised not to waste money on one. He explained everything would convert to digital within 6 months. I know now he wasn’t being truthful, but I haven’t researched it further.

It all depends on your line of sight and obstructions. As Mythos said, tvfool will show you where the stations are and if you might get them.

It all depends on your exact area, where you locate and aim the antenna, obstructions etc.

I've heard that one can have a lot of success building fractal antennae within the void spaces of their attic trusses. Just keep adding sections as required.

this indoor antenna i have is strange in one position i can get fox 29 and WNED but CHCH 11.1 and CTS 14.1 have no signal. in the second position i cannot get any of the buffallo channels. but i can get all the local Toronto channels plus CHCH hamilton and CITS/CTS 14.1.

i prefer the second position. i will watch my fibe tv thing if i want to watch any of the buffalo channels

why not use satellite dish. picks up signal better and you can use it as a dish to feed your dog

This morning I am receiving over 30 channels in central Etobicoke, using a small outdoor dual-array antenna, with an HdHomerun receiver. This includes all the major networks and sub-channels.

Depending on where you are, Toronto and Buffalo are not going to both come in very well on the same antenna. I use a signal combiner along with different high gain directional antennas with great results. It's a night and day difference from the previous flat array antenna I had.

I think Canada Man lives in a condo? That is why he may need an indoor antenna. I have tried a couple indoor antennas and neither of them worked very well. Like Mythos said, SaveandReplay in Mississauga is the place to go.
I bought the DB8 outdoor dual antenna, one pointed at the CN tower and the other at Buffalo, I get all the CAN/US networks in crystal clear HD and about 30 more Standard Def channels.....most of which are garbage.

It was about $300 as I bought a J-pole to attach the antenna to my chimney. It was fairly easy to set up and they give you the coordinates to direct the antenna. You have to run a cable from the antenna to your TV but that was easy enough. But yes, just screw the coaxial cable into your TV and true uncompressed HD TV.

when will the GTA get digital sub-channels like they do in the U.S? fox 29 in buffalo have 29.1 fox 29, 29.2 TDB and 29.3 Charge

    Canada

Although digital television services in Canada use the same ATSC technology as the United States, none of the stations currently broadcasting a digital signal transmit any subchannel other than a possible HD service or a standard definition simulcast of the main channel. Unlike the FCC in the United States, the body that governs Canadian broadcasting licenses, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), requires stations to file license amendments in order to be considered for permission to carry digital subchannels (this differs from the Commission's rules for premium cable television services, which allow the addition of multiplex channels consistent with the service's license requirements without the need to amend the license). On August 17, 2012, the CRTC gave approval to Leamington, Ontario community station CFTV-TV to broadcast four local subchannels on its digital signal, making it the first station in Canada to launch original content on its multiplex channels.[1]
