Surprised no one has brought this up.

Canada in the process (down 6 love) vs. Russia. It is interesting that in their group all 5 teams will be at 1-1 after 2 games each. !st time ever.

Speaking of groups, it seems to me that they are grossly imbalanced. Canada's group also includes, Russia, U.S., Germany and Czechs, while the other group has Sweden, Finland, Khazakstan, Switzerland and Slovakia.

I guess the good news for Canada is that their last two games are aginst Germany and the Czechs, not weak by any standard but not one of the powerhouses. The bad news is that Lafreniere (sp?), possibly their best player is likely gone with an apparent knee injury.

I am hoping that coach Dale Hunter has a chance to teach these youngsters his signature move, which propelled him to notoriety.

It starts at around the 38 second mark.

So Canada gets waxed today by the Russkies 6-0 (didn’t see it, at work). Next Canada takes on Germany. Easy win you say? Well maybe not. Germany beat Czech Republic today, the same Czech team that beat Russia that just embarrassed Canada. So perhaps Germany should be the favourites. Canada in recent years has not done very well in this tournament TBH.

There are no teams to be taken lightly in our group. Not like a Khazakstan or possibly Slovaks in the other group.

I saw some of the game. The Russians looked very good. Very good team play. Canada could get nothing going because the Russian's were that good as a team. Normally when the game gets lopsided the losing team starts to take liberties but the Russians didn't back down. They'll stand up to the Canadians. This ain't the old days of the big bad tough Canadians.

It's good for the game when there is parity like this. Unlike the women's hockey where it's just Canada and US.

Sorry, it’s just the US now in Women’s hockey now, sadly. We might win the odd world championship, but the US past us and are widening the gap. Even when we do win we are badly outplayed. It’s a bummer.

And that's bad for women hockey if the USA just dominates, women's hockey may be pulled from the Olympics.

Obviously I don't follow women's hockey. It's not watchable for me. Not surprised though that US has passed Canada and is dominating.

Alexis Lafrenière has been medically cleared to return to play.
He will be in the line-up for the quarter-final against Slovakia.

I guess he just needed a little break. With the way he was clutching that knee, it looked like he'd be injured for quite some time.

So it is this game and then 2 NFL playoff games with, I think, very little overlap tomorrow.

That's why I was pulling for Sweden.

I think Russia had only one loss, the very 1st game against the Czechs.

Will Canada be able to mentally shake off the beating they took the other day?
