Having the final outcome decided by a skill contest is also different than the major sports you mentioned.
How it is determined is one thing and can be changed. I was referring to the part about how a team that gets past regulation deserves something and pointed out how that is not the case in the other three major team sports in N.A. and nobody seems to have an issue with that.

As far as I’m concerned they should just scrap the shootout and play 3 on 3. If still tied after 5 mins then each team takes turn for 2 mins 4 on 3 until one team wins. I’d like to see the game decided on team play rather on a skill contest. A lot of people criticize the “loser point” but I think that’s more legit than a “shootout point” as you should be rewarded for having played tied after regulation.
Personally, I don't mind letting a game end in a tie after overtime as long as the point system changes.
Win 3pts., tie 1 pt. with guaranteed 1 pt. after regulation.
The 3 point win changes everything, gives huge incentive to play for the win right through.
It won't happen though, the present system keeps almost everybody in the race until the very end.

Seeing more and more shootout attempts where the skater doesn’t appear to maintain clear forward progress.
I’d love to get an official interpretation of Artemi Panarin’s SO goal in Minnesota tonight.
It was hard not to watch it in slow motion and think, like... “Seriously?”
Agree totally.

This is unfortunate. Never like to see anyone hurt, but he was also a tradeable asset in the wagon that could have been included in a package to solve some problems. Dwindling options for the Leafs now could mean some tough choices ahead.

Looks like Holl is the prime candidate then unless the Leafs sign one of Barrie, Ceci and Muzzin. Doubt Leafs will let Dermott go.
That Barrie is scary. He rushes in and Matthews ends up playing defense.

Hutchinson put on waivers.
They better hope Campbell doesn’t get plucked by Seattle in the draft.

If so, maybe they can get Hutch back.

I don’t have an issue with eliminating the “loser point” as long as the game is decided by a continuation of the game, just as baseball, basketball or football do. I just don’t think it’s right to award any point(s) for winning a skill contest. I don’t have problem with penalty shot during the game as it is part of the game but imo shootouts only belong to all star games.

Here's a radical idea. If not 3 point games with 3 pt for regulation win and 2 for overtime/shootout win do all games worth 2 pts. 2 pts for regulation win. 1.5 pts for overtime/shootout win. The other .5 pts goes to loser in ot/overtime. Yes, half points. Why not.

It's wonderful to discover an open mind.

I don't have the stats but i wouldn't be surprised if the team that won the coin toss in OT in the NFL also won most of the games.

Nylander goes to the dirty area in front of the net with an Ottawa player on his back to create an excellent screen on Muzzin's goal.

Yeah, but he coasted to the dirty area in front of the net, with the Ottawa player floating on his back.

I personally think you guys should lay off the young Leafs, they are only 22-23 years old, they are far from seasoned vets, it will take time (but not much) for them to figure out their game. Nylander will learn to go to the net more, Matthews will learn to adjust his game and Marner will improve his shot.

So by your logic if someone mentions ice hockey does that mean it is appropriate for you to start talking about glaciers and the melting polar ice caps? BTW, notice that nobody responded to that post. That should tell you something.
