Stream my own video sources to firesticks

I've settled on Firestick over Chromecast for some of my older TVs (since I can connect the firestick HDMI output to a video converter and plug the composite video outputs into an older television)

Now I'd like to connect other video sources to my network and stream them to my firestick(s) on the other side of my house. Without being too specific, video sources I'd like to connect might include an old VCR, or a Cable TV set-top box. I can solve the remote Infrared control of those devices, but I haven't found a nice, standalone streaming source that will work for my scenario (short of building a full-blown media server with the video sources attached to it).

Aside, I find the Hauppauge "Cordcutter" product available online which does a similar job for my over-the-air TV sources. And I suppose I could find some RF-encoder to mimic an OTA source, but that doesn't sound like the best approach either.

Google has failed me on this quest. Does anyone have any recommendations for a nice, simple, standalone solution?
