I am very supportive of talks with the Russians. Nuclear arms agreements need to be re-established. People have NO IDEA how perilous things are. IRBMs are 1000x more dangerous then ICBMs. They strike in a few minutes and have much weaker command and control then ICBMs. IRBMs can hit Poland in about 3 mins and berlin in about 6 min.
Pompeo was former head of CIA and he is still welcomed in Russia when he visits.
Although I have serious reservations about the current White House incumbent, it is very necessary to have dialogue with the opposition. A lot more can get accomplished by talking with your adversary. The danger may exist that secrets might be disclosed. However, the benefit exists that something constructive might also result form talking. Just saying.
