Nathan Downer, the same guy who interviewed Tyson a while ago

https://youtu.be/OOhdx1TLutw
When Nathan was announced during the news broadcast, the above video was the first thing that came to mind. LOL

Without hiring outside of the CTV family, I really don't know who else could have filled in for Ken's big shoes? I would have gone with Nick Dixon, but's he's too new.

Darts abd shack you're behaving like a pair of teenage girls, stop it before I go Slim Pickens on yah.

I don't know who Ken Shaw is, don't pay attention to tv broadcasters...cept for Shanelle Kaul of course.

As for Sportsnet, Tim and Sid are now undisputed masters of the universe. Donnovan Bennett hit the Portugesh Lothario with the ultimate putdown. He called him a bootydoo, someone who's gut extends farther than his butt.

Is that a Dr. Strangelove reference?

BTW, let me know when you and CC are going out for beers.

I think there are some legal and semantics issues here. My understanding is that there are 3 categories of terminations.
1) Voluntary retirement
2) Termination with cause -- usually means no severance package
3) Laid off (let go)(de-hired) (JD - job discontinuence) -- this usually involves a severance package

In Ken Shaw's case, I assume it is voluntary retirement although he is still staying on for "special projects". However, I don't rule out JD which I think is what happened to Lance Brown and Joe Tilley last year as their jobs were discontinued.
Yeah, Shaw is a voluntary retirement. He's also pulling a Lloyd Robertson, where he's no longer on-air everyday, but will do special interviews and/docs.

From people i know who work there, CTV is all about slashing payroll. News Network has no full-time writers, producers or anchors now. Apparently they started letting people go back in 2016, and everyone there now is freelance.

As for the Don Cherry firing... I feel it's likely he would've been put out to paster after this season (I believe he was on a one-year contract). But, firing him in November probably saved them a ton of money, plus the headache of dealing with his non-hockey opinion stuff (though I'm sure they had some issues with some of his hockey crap, specifically the concussion cult shit...).

Yes, that was obvious when they fired Lance Brown and Joe Tilley and they were never replaced. I thought the same would happen to the noon and supper time CTV NEWS and might still happen as Bell Media is also the owner of CP24.

Regarding Nathan Downer, let's hope he has a pristine history given the environment in 2019 where something someone did as a 17 year old comes back to haunt them to-day.

I only brought up the point because the differences between the types of termination are important in a legal sense. Then there's the Employment Standards Act to contend with, the exact wording of Shaw's contract, if he belongs to a union, etc.

Classic tv moment, and it makes Nathan more legendary than Ken Shaw could ever hope to be, yet in the worst way possible.
