There is another case where the parents of a murdered student are suing the school/school board for not providing a "safe space" for their son who was murdered inside the school or on school grounds. Will post a link if I find one.It is the school administration which let a student who failed
the swimming test to join a swimming trip that should be charged .
Yes the parents let the kid go while knowing he couldn't swim and the kid decided to swim without a PFD. That doesn't lessen the responsibility of the teachers who knew the kid failed the swim test and then failed to supervise him.A bit unfair to blame the teacher. The parents need to share some of the blame. If my child could not swim, no way would I allow them to go on a school trip with a lake nearby.
Holy shit. This makes one think twice before helping a little old lady cross the street. What happens if she slips and falls on our ice and snow covered streets and breaks her hip? This type of stuff makes you not want to do anything or be around anyone. Something happens you're responsible. Especially if you're a guy.
Overnight field trips like this one are slowly being phased out due to liability/lawsuits/insurance etc. It is too bad for the kids.I hate these deranged trials and stupid charges they lay. It was a tragic accident things happen sometimes.

No, it doesn't, but there are 5 parties to blame here, the student, the parents, the teacher, the principal and the school board. The student was a child and is deceased. The only one on trial and taking all the blame, now, is the teacher.Yes the parents let the kid go while knowing he couldn't swim and the kid decided to swim without a PFD. It's not a lie. The rules said they were required to. The teachers chose to ignore it.Well, as usual, someone is lying.
"The school board has said repeatedly that every student who went on the camping trip was required to pass a swim test. Anderson, however, told CBC Toronto that he didn't know if Jeremiah had passed his test."
Yet, half the kids on the trip failed the test! The board is ducking for cover.
The board will be sued (if they haven't already settled). The parents reasonably assumed that the kids would be supervised and made to wear a PFD. The kid was simply a kid; there's a reason why the law treats youth differently from adults. The teacher(s) are the ones with criminal liability here because they intentionally chose to ignore the swim requirement and then left the kid unsupervised. No, it doesn't, but there are 5 parties to blame here, the student, the parents, the teacher, the principal and the school board.
