Why don't people buy travel insurance?

Insurance companies are snakes. They will always try to find a way to avoid a pay out. In my case, they determined it was a pre-existing condition ... which it wasn't.
Insurance sounds good until you need it ....

What does that make people that file bogus claims then?

That is actually a prime example why insurance is a scam...
Please explain how having travel insurance which covered the cost of my stitches was a scam? Unless you know of some other way you can get free medical care in the US.

That is often the case. Their number rule of thumb is deny to the claim. They don't make money paying claims. That's why you need to read the fine print, and not give in easily.

In most cases though, it's a necessary evil.

Almost every top end credit card offers travel insurance

My secondary insurance through employer has travel insurance as part of the benefit. I would think that should not be uncommon?

There are so many loopholes in the travel insurance. He was climbing a ladder and fell and injured himself. The insurance company would probably say "well he's at fault, what is he doing climbing a ladder on while vacation?" and they won't pay out. Fuck insurance.

Be careful to read the small print for these "free" travel insurances
That goes for every travel insurance though, even the ones you pay for

Goes without saying.

If you are young and healthy, you don'r need much insurance.

But if you are a senior, which is when most people travel more, and need medical insurance more, the credit card coverage is inadequate.

Quite simply, if you can't afford travel insurance, you shouldn't be traveling. If you travel without it, you're an idiot.

This is the program they're scrapping. I agree with this this decision.

The insurance currently covers out-of-country inpatient services to a maximum of $400 per day for a higher level of care, and up to $50 per day for emergency outpatient services and doctor services.

Health Minister Christine Elliot announced the decision to scrap the program, following a six-day public consultation.

The province spends $2.8 million to administer approximately $9 million in claim payments through the program every year.
to save .66 cents a year per person? I would gladly pay that for this coverage. The clowns could have added $1 per plane ticket upgraded the coverage and made a profit.

I agree with you, but you need much better insurance, if you travel to more exotic places. Like a $2,000,000 cost to bring you home if necessary.

It depends on where you are going. Yes with the USA for sure you need to be heavily insured. But in cheaper countries you do not (in the past anyway) now people going to Cuba will need to buy insurance as well. How could it cost 2M to bring you home? Global express air ambulance with a full staff of hookers? Typically air evacs from FL are 30-50K on a learjet.
