I have no idea what would be interesting to discuss.

It doesn't matter what brand of Football it is....Toronto just isn't a Football town. Remember 10 years ago when Rogers arranged for the Bills to play one home game at Rogers Centre?

The Bills players hated it, because it basically felt like an away game to them; and attendance steadily declined year/year until Rogers and the Bills decided to scrap the whole deal entirely. If you could consider it a test as to whether or not Toronto was suitable for an NFL Franchise, Toronto failed the test.

I think if we had our own NFL team (not saying it is at all likely to happen anytime soon) I think they'd be supported. We support major league teams consistently. Less than major league is hit and miss.

I think the Bills games were well attended initially, until the fans realized that they were playing us and ripping us off.

If CFL is going to survive, let alone thrive, it needs to abandon most of the canadian nuances is applies to its product. Adopt NFL-style rules, smaller field dimension, eliminate roster limitations, use a more player friendly football....many more. The CFL game itself, in its current form, is simply not exciting enough.

In fantasy world, as an example, what if CFL adopted:

- 5 down football, 15 yards for a first down, but no punting, on NFL sized playing field and end zones?

- Extra point must be kicked from the 40 yard line? Goal posts at back of end zone.

- What if you could only try kicking a field goal outside 40 yards? More points per field goal depending on distance kicked? If you miss, one point awarded to other team?

- 10 men only, offense and defense. But anyone can play any position, and be an eligible ball carrier or receiver.

- Personal fouls result in that team playing a man down for the balance of that possession.

Lots of other creative ways to update the game to make it more challenging, faster, and more exciting to watch.

Lots of interesting thoughts but I am afraid that it would end up being a version of Arena football

Very true, but would that be a bad thing? I'm not suggesting blowing up the game completely, but 2-3 significant changes might help. Tempering degree, pace and cadence of change is also an important consideration. Lots to be learned from Arena, XFL, and AAF without replicating their demise.

I don't think that the rules are the problem and changing them would be useless.

The problem, as I see it, is that it is a minor league operation. That may not be as much of an issue in the prairies where they love it or even Montreal or Vancouver, but for the CFL to do well overall, it has to do well in Toronto, the cultural and media centre of Canada. And Torontonians have been spoiled with Leafs, Jays and Raptors. We had sellout crowds in the 70's and prior, but that was before MLB and NBA.

I actually don't know what the solution is but gimmicking up the game will not change the situation in Toronto, other than make it look more clownish and bush league.

Too many other things to do in Toronto, many immigrants who couldn't care less about football. They should just move the argos down east. The league doesn't need a team in Toronto. Cfl is dead in Toronto, the end. Might work in a city like London ont. Argo fans could travel there 9 times and they might pick up 15k paying fans from that area.

On the highway of life
Quite the quarterback carousel this off-season with free agents and openings across the league. Former McMaster QB Marshall Ferguson hosts the morning show on TSN 1150 in Hamilton and they talk A LOT of CFL.

Well I started the thread, so the news is that the Argos fired head coach Corey Chamblin. How many people knew that he was head coach? I couldn't have named him.

So who should Pinball hire to replace him?

Earl Camembert. What is MLSE going to do with the Argos?

BMO Field has been designated a World Cup 2026 venue, they have to get the renovations started. Larry Tanenbaum has taken hits buying them, Rogers wanted no part - not even Primo Foods bought in and they are Tanenbaum's staunchest ally. They could save 20% on maintenance fees if the Argos move to Halifax.

The ONLY rule the CFL should consider dropping is the idiotic NO YARDS Rule! on punts.! 99.9% of punt returners are Americans. To watch the 5 yard ''dance'' on a punt is stupid because NOBODY can predict where the ball will go. The returners are used to getting drilled on punts so its not a big deal in US football The fair catch is a good enough rule where many of the CFL players come from.

But it's so Canadian! What could be more polite than giving a guy an opportunity to not get drilled?
