Have you learned about the passing of any previous SW(s)?

I recently came across the obit for a semi-pro I saw more than 10 years ago. I only saw her a few times then before we went our separate ways and lost touch and it was transactional, for a lack of a better word, but it certainly brought back a lot of memories and emotions. I thought about her a lot that night and hope she rests in peace.

Have you learned about the passing of any SWs you had the pleasure of seeing before?

How do you even find this out?

I never had the pleasure of meeting her but I heard it through the grapevine she passed away about a year ago.
RIP

I knew a girl from Vancouver who worked part-time and would go to Calgary every couple months that passed away last New Year’s Day. I seen her a bunch of times, she was hands down the best sp I ever met. Always had a blast with her in and out of the room. She used to send me pics and vids all the time, she was definitely my atf and there was quite a few times when she wouldn’t even charge me. She was a unicorn for sure. RIP

I'm glad no one's mentioned names in this thread. But, what if it was done reverentially and with respect (not mentioning real names)? Still inappropriate? Probably. I've wondered about that, if I found out a previous SW had met a tragic end, would it be okay to do a R.I.P. in her SW name? In my mind I'd be doing it out of a good place but ... probably best to leave it alone unless/until someone asks a "whatever happened to ..." question.

Great question. My take is as long as real names are not mentioned and done with respect it would be ok. I know if I was wondering how an SP I hadn't heard from in a while was doing I would want to know something like that. With no real names I don't see how it would be a problem. Personally I am not one to ask "whatever happened to" as I tend to stay in touch with many but if replies stop I do not pursue and ask questions. I realize in this biz many go silent for good reasons which I do not need to know. If someone did post an RIP in a timely manner it would give a guy who was close enough to know her real name a chance to pay respects. Many ask for donations in lieu so even if it was some time after the event respects could still be paid in that fashion.

Was very close to one for years. Met her from one of the ads on ottawaatnight (remember them?) . Wound up getting to know her bf and the whole nine. She got heavy into drugs and wound up dying in a murder-suicide. She was good people.
There was also a pretty well known black provider i saw once, but got to know somewhat socially who passed a couple back.

My favourite SP died tragically in her late 20s. Left two kids. Major shock for me and I think of her all the time.

I think out of respect for the ladies who did pass away I wouldn't mention their real names. I obviously can't speak for them but there is likely a good chance there are people they knew personally that didn't know they were in the industry and it is probably better it stays the way they would have wanted it.
