I'm just hoping for an upward trend.
So a .500 this season might be okay, so long as its followed up by a WC challenging team in 2021.

Then again we cant go much downwards after 2019.....LOL.

Only 19 days left, you filthy freaks: http://www.springtrainingcountdown.com/#sthash.klkl4FNt.dpbs
Mirror your feelings. .500 is a 28 game improvement.

There will be lots to discuss in 19 days. So much more media coverage (especially for a big market like Toronto:yo:) and evaluation of young talent.

This.....

How could you possibly even think anything but an upward trend is possible?

Phil doesn't want me to be "THAT guy".

The team was close to a .500 team the last few months of the season with almost no front line pitching. If the team stays healthy, they should be a much improved team. The kids aren't as green and much more pitching depth. Also don't rule out any trades that may happen.

Not sure what their record was but I don't think any September should count for much in terms of predictions,

In September a lot of games are meaningless since many teams are just playing out the string and mainly looking at their call-ups. In the past we've been enthused by teams with good September records but then they revert to mediocrity again the next year, so I don't think those games are the best barometer with which to assess what may come next year.

As such, it seems to me that the months of July and August would be an appropriate and possibly best part of the season to look at to give us some kind of idea of what next year may bring. The team probably played their best baseball, our young core was there for a good chunk of that period, the manager had some time to get used to the majors, got to play around with batting orders and positions on the field and assess what he had to work with and most games in those months would be considered meaningful since most teams were running out their best rosters. I imagine that there will be significant turnover between now and the start of the season, but based on past performance I really don't see what part of the season would be a better parameter with which to forecast. So in the months of July and August, the Jays had a record of 23-29. Versus teams at .500 or better Jays were 9-12 and against sub .500 teams were 14-17.

And if I'm not mistaken, LG.jr who was very hot went of the DL. Vlad jr had nothing left in the tank and sort of ran out of gas
He's lost a lot of weight from his instagram vids.

I like the fact he took his fitness seriously in the off-season, there was a lot of haters who said he couldnt do it
(or didnt want to do it).

Fuck them!!! :biggrin1:

The Jays were pretty much .500 from July onwards after Bichette (?) arrived.
They were 6 games under for the 52 games they played in July and August, which extrapolates to about 19 games under for a full season (71.5-90.5 record). IMO, with so many teams out of the race and with so many call ups in September, that month should not be considered a good predictor.

I'm not saying that they won't do better, but that is based on last year's roster for that time frame.

I don't think he had a choice. I think the club sort of forced him to do it.

Blue Jays catcher arrested for 'exposure of sexual organs' in Florida

This is certainly not the kind of “first day of spring training” story that the Toronto Blue Jays hoped would be coming out as pitchers and catchers report to Dunedin, Florida in advance of the 2020 season.

Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire was arrested last weekend for the exposure of sexual organs and given a notice to appear in court, according to Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, reports Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi.

In a statement, the Blue Jays acknowledged their awareness of the situation.

“The Toronto Blue Jays are aware of the recent police incident involving catcher Reese McGuire. He has been in communication with the Blue Jays and we are working to gather more information. Out of respect for the legal process, neither he nor the club will comment any further at this time.”

According to reports, McGuire was inside an SUV in a parking lot in Dunedin on Friday afternoon at the time of the incident.

McGuire enters spring as the presumptive favourite to be half of the team’s catching tandem with Danny Jansen. McGuire, who turns 25 on March 2, appeared in 30 games with the Blue Jays last season, posting a .299/.346/.526 batting line.

He is due to appear at the Criminal Court Complex in Clearwater on March 16.

MLB makes it official: The three-batter minimum rule is here

Major League Baseball has made official a rule change that many purists were dreading: Pitchers will have to face a minimum of three hitters before their team can make a pitching change.

The three-bat minimum had long been talked about coming to MLB this season, but the league spelled out the specifics Wednesday:

The Official Baseball Rules have been amended to require the starting or any relief pitcher to pitch to a minimum of three batters, including the batter then at bat (or any substitute batter), until such batters are put out or reach base, or until the offensive team is put out, unless the substitute pitcher sustains injury or illness which, in the umpire crew chief’s judgment, incapacitates him from further play as a pitcher. The three-batter minimum will become effective in 2020 Spring Training beginning on Thursday, March 12th.

The goal is to speed up games, as the commissioner’s office has prioritized pace of play as a major issue since Rob Manfred took over. The rule change would eliminate the job baseball fans know as the LOOGY — the left-handed-one-out-only guy, or the lefty reliever who comes into a game to get one out.

The new rules allow for that only if that batter is the final out of an inning. Otherwise relievers will have to face three batters at minimum this season and beyond.
Other MLB rule changes for 2020

The three-batter minimum is the big one here, but MLB announced other rule changes for 2020:

• Rosters are expanding from 25 to 26 players during the regular season and postseason. With that, there’s a maximum of 13 pitchers.

• R.I.P the 40-man roster. September rosters will be limited to 28 players with a maximum of 14 pitchers.

• Teams can designate “two-way players” who won’t count toward the pitcher limitations on rosters. To qualify, players need at least 20 Major League innings pitched and at least 20 Major League games started as a position player or DH with at least three plate appearances in each of those games. For the first year, player stats from 2018 and 2019 could be used.

• There are some limitations on when a position player can pitch. Now they can only pitch if their team is behind by six or more runs or if a game is in extra innings.

• Managers will now have 20 seconds instead of 30 to challenge a call on the field.

He probably had a few to many wobbly pops.....Gets a pass.
In vino veritas. If he had a "few", it reduced his inhibitions to do what he really wanted to do but knew was wrong.

I'm interested to see how Vladi looks when he shows up, he's been working hard on his fitness. If he can control his weight he should hit 30 hr easily. Phil who's your sig pic?
