It's the US of A and they go overboard on the law and order shit. They will throw you in jail for Jay walking.
Because he was arrested again to face new charges. Police take him to court and once in court he becomes the jurisdiction of the courts and no longer the police.
Now you can tell guy is innocent from the news coverage this story is getting.
In the Gomeshi trial as the story developed the news outlets took it from the top story to the bottom story.

Incarceration has become a for profit business in the US. The US has the highest rate of imprisonment in the world with 655 inmates per 100,000 of the population. The system has to be fed.
