Why do we keep doing this?

Most camera systems are only used when something happens. They record over old footage anywhere from a 1 day to a 30 day cycle. And cameras are everywhere now so if they bother you that much, don't even go outside. LOL Just jokes.

It's the sunk cost fallacy. By the time you are at the door you are very invested in the outcome. You've researched, communicated, lied to your wife (if required), got the money out of the bank, and driven to the location. Human nature is to attempt to salvage this investment by "throwing good money after bad".
