I hate this political correct garbage...we don't want to offend anyone...Most that have changed still identify with a man or woman ...

MONTREAL -- Flight attendants at Air Canada will no longer greet passengers as "ladies and gentlemen" or "mesdames et messieurs" as they have for years.
Flight staff will no longer use gender terms in boarding announcements as the company will be replacing scripted greetings with neutral words like "everybody" or "tout le monde".

"We will be amending our onboard announcements to modernize them and remove specific references to gender," a media spokesperson for the company said in an email. "We work hard to make sure all employees feel like valued members of the Air Canada family, while ensuring our customers are comfortable and respected when they choose to travel with us."
Air Canada's response also noted that the company was named one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2019.

Air Canada has not yet announced when the new gender-neutral greetings will be implemented by on-board staff.
The airline's announcement comes just weeks after the Ontario Provincial Police announced it would no longer be releasing the gender of people charged with crimes, or that of their alleged victims.
Earlier this year, Canada allowed citizens who do not identify with a binary gender such as male or female to use the gender 'X' on official documents such as passports and citizenship certificates.

Honestly, what's the difference? If it could possibly offend someone, then change it to something that won't. It doesn't matter in the least to me, and it sounds like good company relations with the LGBTQ community.

Agreed.
To be honest this is not even news worthy, companies change their policies all the time.

Why complain about political correctness if the change doesn't negatively affect you AND humanizes the experiences for a marginalized community. Help me understand your outrage lol.

Because we have young girls having to compete with young transgender boys in sports competitions. If you give into this notion of multiple genders, it just keeps going on and on.

Sorry but I like Jordan Peterson's reaction to Bill C-16. No one is going to tell him how to address another person.

Of course, such buffoonery is Air Canada's prerogative as the employer.

I agree that it is their company and they can do what they want.

The part that bothers me is that this is getting so fucking confusing that I don’t know anymore what the appropriate way is anymore. Plus the transgender, and the washroom debate and all the issues associated with this. Like I don’t care who I share the washroom with however it is getting so fucking confusing.

They should just create a universal system here that can incorporate an infinite amount of changes.

The constant change is the frustrating part for me here.

I agree that we are spiritual beings undergoing a human experience and can choose how we identify ourselves in the physical sense.

I also agree that we should be able to believe in whatever man made religion and beliefs as long as it does not promote hate and/or infringe upon another human beings rights.

I think they still have work to do to make it more universal otherwise it will cause exhaustion and lose the intended purpose where we get to choose how to identify ourselves and what to believe vs. making it into a victimization thing here and/or making it political.

As for the sports issues I agree that this is not fair. How to fix it IDK ATM.

I will give it a shot.

Neither gender dysphoria, nor non binary status, among other related circumstances, are well understood in the medical community. When one delves deeply into these issues, and the people subject to them, a whole host of very, very serious underlying problems arise. Having these issues become trendy, or politically correct, is nothing short of terrifying. I have been an attorney for 38 years and have handled many of the legal issues associated with this. During this time I have had extensive conversations/study with members of the medical community and, as such, have more than just a passing understanding of the subject matter. Please do your research before opining; and make it extensive! Perhaps not all, but many of these people are in serious trouble. Further, it is the people involved who are negatively affected, not the observers. And, are we really "humanizing those in a marginalized community" through the actions of the like of Air Canada? Or are we just avoiding the real problems, catering to our own incompetence and taking the easy, lazy way out.

The vast majority of ordinary people don't have 38 (or even 2) years of legal and/or medical experience on the subject and are too busy working and/or raising a family to do an extensive study. So, let's pardon their ignorance and not castigate them.

Personally, the AC change doesn't bother me at all. Just like banning peanuts on flights didn't bother me either. What did bother me was they made the seats smaller.

Las time I flew AC, the announcements were addressed to "Passengers …".

Are you saying you actually listen? And care?

We could claim the Earth is flat tomorrow. Doesn't really harm anyone, and it would make the flat-Earthers happy.

Just extend the greetings to something like: "Welcome
ladies and gentleman, dykes and dogs....".

There is no need for gender greetings. There is nothing that says you have to be identified and greeted based on your gender. Simply saying, hi, welcome etc is fine.

I don't even consider it a PC issue or a trans issue. I see it as a non-issue.

If it hasn't already happened, the day is soon coming when they will get rid of Mr., Miss and Mrs. Next, will be gender neutral names. We will all be named "Chris" or "Jordan" because Chris/Jordan can be male, female, trans, others, etc.
