This month marks the 50th anniversary of the classic Beatles album Abbey Road. It's definitely a great album that has stood the test of time and features one of my all time favorite Beatles songs: I Want You (She's So Heavy). As a lover of heavy metal/hard rock that is certainly one of the heaviest songs the band ever did along with another big fave of mine, Helter Skelter. Other Beatles songs I really love are : Nowhere Man, Day Tripper, Ticket To Ride, Paperback Writer, Back In The USSR and While My Guitar Gently Weeps ( great Clapton solo!). My all time favorite is I Am The Walrus, one of the most original songs ever recorded. Just curious what some of you would consider the best Beatles songs and albums.

Best Beatles Album?

Hmmm, tough one, but I'd have to go with Rubber Soul I think.

As far as best songs go, in no particular order:

Norwegian Wood (love that song)
A Day in the Life
Yesterday
Revolution
In my Life
You've got to hide your love away
Strawberry Fields
Hey Jude
Here comes the Sun

More obscure songs:

Long long long
Oh Darling
Sun king
Blackbird
Things we said today
Tomorrow never knows

It is impossible to pick a "best" Beatles song. So many were not only so melodic and well constructed but they were also sounds and styles that no one had heard before. Many of them were landmarks of music.

Not an easy choice, but I will say Revolver is my favourite album.

So many excellent songs, is it because we heard it when young? Does today Youth like their music?

Not a fan of McCartney but Harrison is great with his spiritual stuff. While my guitar gently weeps was written while with the Beatles and showed his spiritual nature

where did the name come from? Beatles is a stupid name

He needed singing lessons but he still had the best voice of all the Beatles IMHO. The only Beatle I saw live

RIP

This is the "Lounge" where people discuss things like "Best Beatles Songs" among others. If you're looking for escort reviews, it's you that's in the wrong section. Or did I miss your sarcasm?

Back to the topic at hand, I'm always hard pressed to choose my favourite Beatles songs. So many great songs. Many have been mentioned above. There's a reason why The Beatles are the best-selling band in history.

Try to keep in mind the times in which this name was conceived.

And there were many imitators, Byrds, Monkees, the Cyrkle etc., which actually were just misspelled without the intended double entendre.

It would be ironic if Lennon underwent the process of beatification. He’s widely worshipped but was a disbeliever.
He liked beat poets and wrote songs like “I’m So Tired”, “I’m Only Sleeping” and “Tomorrow Never Knows” about being beat or tired.

My understanding was that the name was a tribute/homage to Buddy Holly and his Crickets.
Quite possibly, but adding the "A" brought in the aspect of a musical beat to their name. That was something original in terms of sobriquets for musical acts
