York Regional Police says more information will be released on Wednesday about a multi-provincial investigation into human trafficking and organized crime that has led to the arrest of 31 people.

In a news release issued Tuesday, the police service confirmed that more than 200 charges have been laid in connection with the case, dubbed “Project Convalesce.”

Few details have been released about investigation but more information will be provided at a news conference at York Regional Police headquarters in Aurora on Wednesday morning.

“We remain extremely concerned about the appalling levels of violence and victimization of women occurring in these human trafficking rings. We continue to encourage victims of human trafficking to reach out to us for help,” York Regional Police Chief Eric Jolliffe said in a written statement accompanying the press release.

“Our trained investigators have been working tirelessly to see that criminals who victimize vulnerable members of our community are held accountable for their actions.”

The news conference is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. and representatives from partner agencies, including Ontario Provincial Police, the Toronto Police Service, and Peel Regional Police, will be in attendance.

"Human Trafficking" seems have replaced the words "prostitution" in the arsenal of fighting the sex trade of late. (It's hard to argue against human trafficking and now it seems that every sex worker is a victim who has been trafficked.)

The term "Human Trafficking" is a far more incendiary term than prostitution and congers up images of someone who is literally being sold into slavery. (And that may indeed be the case, who knows, however, it just could be a good old fashioned bust in the sex trade with women who are completely agreeable to selling sex. Big difference.) Will wait and see the details. I'm a believer in the legalization of the sex trade as long as all parties are over the age of majority and enter into the profession of their own accord and are not being forced by anyone to do so against their will. If anyone is indeed guilty of human trafficking, then throw the book at them.

Scheer will completely make it illegal. He will revisit bill C-36. But the Conservatives on this board care more about their tribe winning.

If this was a legitimate case of busting traffickers, good. Lock them up, throw away the key. Let them rot. If they’re just harassing legitimate agencies and their clients, fuck ‘em.

Wait to see if any sites go down like toe88 and the other whose name eludes me, from a few years ago.

Bob kraft's lady was trafficked also, only she wasn't.

MORE THAN 300 CHARGES LAID AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING RINGS DISMANTLED IN PROJECT CONVALESCE

Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit - Human Trafficking Section have laid more than 300 charges and arrested 31 people in Project Convalesce, a multi-provincial human trafficking and organized crime investigation.

In October 2018, an investigation began into a suspected pimp, Jonathan NYANGWILA, after two female victims of human trafficking contacted police after attempting to escape. The investigation led officers to identify a number of suspects believed to be involved in a large, multi-provincial, human trafficking ring run by organized crime. This group was also involved in frauds, drug trafficking and weapons offences.

On Thursday, October 10, 2019, arrest warrants and search warrants were executed in more than 30 locations across the Greater Toronto Area and in the Province of Quebec.

Photos and videos taken during the arrests and search warrant executions can be found here:

Through the investigation, officers identified 12 victims and determined that more than 30 women who were involved in the sex trade were associated to this group of suspects. The majority of the women came from Quebec but had been moved to Ontario and across Canada for sex trade purposes.

Despite enduring violent assaults, sexual assaults, torture and other degrading circumstances, many victims are too fearful to come forward and often deny the events completely. Officers will be continuing the work to assist these victims and connect them with support.

“York Regional Police will continue to offer assistance and support to the victims of violent human trafficking,” said Chief Eric Jolliffe. “I commend the officers involved in this investigation for their diligent work in dismantling this organized crime ring.”

York Regional Police would like to thank our partner agencies in this investigation - the Ontario Provincial Police, the Toronto Police Service, Peel Regional Police and The Équipe intégrée de lutte contre le proxénétisme (the Quebec Integrated Human Trafficking Task Force).

Members of the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit - Human Trafficking Section are continuing their aggressive efforts in combating human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of women and underage girls. In many cases, victims are forced into the sex trade through violence, threats of violence, coercion and trickery.

York Regional Police is committed to investigating all incidents relating to human trafficking and providing assistance to victims. Investigators are willing to speak with anyone involved in the sex trade who may be looking for a way out or who may require assistance to escape these dangerous circumstances.

Ok, yeah, fuck all those guys then. Absolutely disgusting subhuman parasites, thriving on the misery of others. Good on the police taking them down.

Also just realized, I went to high school with a guy named Daniel Fagan. Probably a coincidence, but eerie nonetheless.

Do you have any evidence to support your comments? It sounds like empty political talking points. So much easier than actually thinking about facts. You might not realize that you are smearing a good number of people who are on this board as well as those you meet in your every day life by smearing them with that nasty "conservative" accusation. It sounds like you are the one who is dividing people into tribes. If it were only that simple.

You seem upset that some evil conservative group is trying shut down your hobby. Please read the article and understand that this is about a very bad group who are using coersion and violence to keep these young women under their control. If you support this group of thugs, just come out and say so. I believe that the great majority here are actually supportive of the actions of the police and don't see any need to politicize their efforts...

It specifically says in the Conservative platform, section 120, if I recall. They want to develop a plan to target the purchasers of sex. It is not an empty talking point, it’s right there in writing.

The point that I was trying to make was that this bust was not the result of some puritanical exercise to restrict women from making a free choice. The police became involved, not because of some conservative platform. They received a call from two of these women who were being held against their will and they asked the police to essentially rescue them from this gang.

For some clown to use this as an excuse to launch an attack on Andrew Scheer shows that he failed to understand the situation in which these women found themselves. I don't really care about his politics, but I do care that he could not for a single moment understand the danger that they faced every day that they were under the control of these thugs. Every other comment from this community was sympathetic to their situation, and I doubt very much that they were thinking about debating points about the platform of any political party. There is a time and place for this, and perhaps the glam boy should think about posting his views in the appropriate section of this forum. For now, out attention needs to be on these women and making every effort to ensure that any women in this trade should be there by their own free will. He kinda' missed that point as he ranted about political "tribes"...

I don’t think anyone was really saying that. I think it’s pretty well understood that this was a legitimate bust that got some pretty monstrous people off the streets. I think the point, however misplaced, was simply that supporting Scheer if you’re a hobbyist is a risky proposition. I do agree that that point isn’t really relevant to this situation.

Also, I must correct myself, I said it was section 120 of the Conservative platform that deals with sex work. It was section 112.

Get off your high horse!

If Scheer gets in this instances will be used to tighten the noose on the buyers, WHAT don't you understand!
