    Unhappy Van Halen....Done.

David Lee Roth has opened a show in Los Vegas, he was asked if Van Halen are going to be touring...he said Van Halen are done.

He did not elaborate but Eddie Van Halen's throat cancer has returned. He recently had surgery to have part of his tongue removed. When asked about it, he said that holding a metal pick in his mouth brought it about - he should confess.

Eddie problem came from a mix of cigarettes and Chrystal Meth, it rotted his teeth out. Desiccated enamel is like kryptonite to any part of the digestive system. That is why regular dental checkups should be mandatory. Eddie got a temporary reprieve, Valerie Bertinelli nursed him back to health and he also got dentures. She had already divorced him for his self abuses, being a good Italian mother that she is, she considered it her duty to be an angel of healing. Now his luck appears to have run out. He's not Keith Richards.

It's tragic, I saw the Diver Down tour at MLG, I remember it to this day. David Lee Roth was in full Gonad The Barbarian mode...how time flies.

Van Halen is a great band but with these guys it ain't over til it's over...you just never know with VH. Wouldn't surprise me if they are back on the road within two years. Seeing them on Diver Down tour must have been great. Saw them at Montreal Forum for the next tour for 1984 album: fantastic show! Diver Down is an underrated album and that was a peak for them as an arena act...you can watch footage from that era by watching their headlining set from the US Festival in 1983. Btw the name of that tour was actually Hide Your Sheep! Pretty sure Diamond Dave thought of that one.

Eddie Van Halen is currently recuperating in a German clinic from throat surgery. I wish him a full recovery.

He probably preferred Diamond Dave to Gonad The Barbarian. The cultural significance of Van Halen. Without Diamond Dave to show him the way, there would be no Hulk Hogan.

David Lee Roth is the son of a dentist...that explains a lot.

There is a really revealing interview on Q107 of all places with Sammy Hagar. (Sammy seems like a really down to earth guy, you have to admit.)

Anyway, it's a fascinating watch when he speaks about Eddie Van Halen. In summary, not a nice man.

In following VH throughout the years, Eddie did nothing but slag David Lee Roth. I remember reading an interview with him in Rollingstone decades ago when he shit all over Roth. Then it was Hagar, his former wife Valarie Bertenelli, then he fired Michael Anthony. Clearly there is something there.

I hope that now since he's been waylaid by illness, Eddie will let go of his Kim Mitchell complex.

When she married Eddie, I thought Valerie Bertinelli was a gold digger. I wuz wrong, without her, Eddie would have died last decade. She's a money maker in her own right, Wolfgang shows up on her show. She no gold digger...unlike the one to the left of Rachel Ray.

Sort of, it wasn't like Faye Dunaway marrying Peter Wolf, she wasn't competing for big money roles in major films. She eventually ran a successful catering career. My point is that EVH would have been dead by 2011 if she just moved on. They divorced in 2007, but when he needed her she was there. It's probably beginning to dawn on him how lucky he's been. Nothing new on his condition.

    Music video for RAI.

Great band - but did you notice that Eddie screwed up with a "false start" of the verse before Dave came in (or maybe Dave came in late)? Just shows you that even the greatest mess up sometimes.

Eddie has major ego problems. For a lot of stars, that drive is what got them there. They never learn to turn it off. Roth was very good in the limelight, and Eddie hated it. There is a great write-up on the Helmut Newton photo shoot you may like that lays it all out.

This is why Richards-Jagger works so well. Richards pretty much just plays, and lets Jagger prance and keep the business going. They both get rich.

Nothing new on the Eddie front.

I wasn't into Van Halen when they first came out. It was on my second trip to Italy that I got into them. Malata would you believe that they sold out the Concert Bowl at San Siro (that's 50,000 + people) when they toured Fair Warning.

Anyway that other band knocked my socks off! The first Dire Straits album is one of the rare few that you can listen to from beginning to end. And they kicked off their career at the Horseshoe Tavern.

I would rank the official VH studio albums:
    12. Van Halen 3
    11. Balance
    10. A Different kind of Truth
    9. 5150
    8.OU812
    7. Diver Down
    6. Fair Warning
    5. For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge
    4. Women And Children First
    3. Van Halen 2
    2. 1984
    1. Van Halen

Eddie problems with drugs and chain smoking went into high gear with Sammy Hagar's late time with the band. I wouldn't rate FUCK that high. Van Halen 2 was leftovers from the first album.

Sammy's lyrics fit the music, that's his talent since he's a musician himself, but they were most cliche driven and juvenile. Diamond Dave lyrics weren't that much better but they were streetwise and tongue in cheek. So he went with Extreme's Gary Cherone to start a new chapter - the album bombed - retreads with a new singer. Eddie took it to heart, got hooked on drugs and his marriage failed.

Unlike Gonad the barbarian and Sammy, Cherone was not a good fit.
