Question when the Raptors starts to suck again and they have to rebuild because every sports franchise goes through it. Will the Raptors fans base still be as strong as Nav Bhatia or are most going to be just band wagon jumpers and jump off?
Nav is a very sick man in his devotion and obsession, so fans may not emulate him. But they will stay strong just as they have in the decades it took to win a championship. For example, they survived dismal seasons in the early days of launch, then saw Vince Carter change things around and set records. Even after Carter's departure attendance remained steady and there was no major deviation this year: https://www.statista.com/statistics/197984/nba-home-attendance-of-the-toronto-raptors-since-2006/

Yes hockey fans tend to be richer and whiter. The sports that dominate the globe are cheap - soccer, football, basketball - because they can be played easily during all seasons and it's affordable to all. This will solidify basketball's popularity over hockey in Toronto. However, there will be a place for hockey for many generations to come. It'll still make bank just like golf does which is overwhelmingly white, old, and expensive.
Cricket is number 2 behind soccer.

Toronto Life just released their list 50 most influential people. No surprise and well deserving Masai is #1 on the list. No one from the Maple Leafs made the list.

When the Leafs coach get's fired it's all over the news in Canada. When Don Cherry get's fired it's all over the news in Canada and this board is obsessed with it. Hockey is still king.

Maybe it is or maybe it isn't. That's the whole point: that it's in doubt and up for discussion. There was a time when it wouldn't be. Clearly, those days are gone, hence the conversation.

One of the biggest games in the world was held yesterday. The Copa Libertadores final with Flamengo taking on River Plate.

There was little to no mention of it on TERB. Meanwhile, it's one of the most widely watched games in the Americas and Europe. The TERB demographic is widely skewed towards hockey. It makes sense that this demographic would be.

What I can tell you is this: at work, it's a staff (all walks of life) of about 80 which I oversee and interact with all of them. There was only relief and joy at Don Cherry being fired. I took a poll regarding a Christmas gift raffle for dinner at the Shore Club and either tickets to the Leafs or Raptors. Out of 80 votes, 52 were for the Raptors, 21 are willing to wait for the Blue Jays, 7 were for the Leafs.

Clearly, the Raptors are riding a wave, deservedly so. The Blue Jays have a young and exciting line up, now needing pitching. The Leafs have not won a Championship in over 50 years and inspire nothing to this new generation.

Since we were talking about polls, this one at my work is one that I believe in.

With a cross section of people between their early 20's and even a few in their early 60's, this makes a lot more sense.

TERB is not a reflection of Toronto, just look at how many Don Cherry threads popped up on here in different sections and the rush of the many to defend him, certainly nowhere near what the majority of people in Toronto feel, now that was a great Copa Liberatadores, lived in Brazil for a few months last year so I was very interested.

Toronto Raptors 2.1 million Twitter followers

vs.

Toronto Maple Leafs 1.9 million twitter followers
The Raptors have all of Canada cheering for them. There are 6 other cities cheering for their local NHL teams, not the Leafs. I do not know the numbers, but guaranteed that it is a hell of a lot more than the above 200,000 differential.

No change just because it is 6 months later.
