The UN has spent more than 30 years predicting total catastrophe unless the world reduced its output of man-made greenhouse gases -- while emissions actually increased.

Even the most numerically challenged can figure out that 30 years is longer than a decade. :biggrin1:

I've said this before and I'm happy to repeat it. Thirty years of doomsday predictions have had no effect -- in fact, the results have been the opposite of their desired outcomes.

Yes, the UN has been warning the world for 30 years.
Exxon and Imperial Oil both knew about the results, so Exxon spent $30 million on disinformation, so that the UN's warnings would be ineffective.
Now the planet is 1ºC warmer and likely to hit 1.5ºC with the amount of CO2 in the air now.
But if we finally listened to those warnings and implemented high carbon taxes we could likely slow the increase and limit it to levels that might not totally fuck the world up for humans.

Of course, you'd prefer to fuck the world up, as we know.
Either that, or you still don't think the world will hit 0.83ºC, as you claimed 4 years ago.

Its also worth checking on the status of Exxon's legal challenges.
They are being sued the same way the tobacco industry was, that lead to some big changes.

Another evasion. In fact, the UN has been saying for 30 years that we only had 10 years left (starting 30 years ago) to start significantly reducing emissions or the planet is doomed.

If the UN's past predictions had been correct, it would now be "too late" (to quote the former chair of the IPCC) to do anything -- making all of these "action plans" on climate change completely pointless.

The only way you can justify governments doing anything at all is to concede the UN's previous doomsday predictions have been completely wrong.

An elementary school headteacher in the United Kingdom has banned his charges from sending Christmas cards to one another — all in the name of saving the planet.

In a letter sent home to parents, Jonathan Mason of the Belton Lane Primary School placed blame for the idea on students, saying he’s “been approached by a number of children who are concerned” about the cards’ impact on the environment.

According to the Daily Mail, Mason wrote “Throughout the world we send enough Christmas cards that if we placed them alongside each other, they’d cover the world’s circumference 500 times.”

The cards, he continued, contribute to “our ever-growing carbon emissions.” Mason noted students may send only one card to the entire class this year.

Naturally, parents were cheesed.

“Why should children have the joy of taken out of Christmas? Why can’t all these cards be recycled anyway? And I buy a lot of Christmas cards for charity,” one parent said. “Where is all the Christmas spirit in this?”
