Hello Gentlemen,

It's Asian Nicole. I have read lots of history about the Mormons and Westward Expansion Trails, and how the Mormons finally settled in Salt Lake City, Utah. Salt Lake City was founded on July 24, 1847 by a group of pioneers led by Brigham Young, who were the first non-Indians to settle permanently in the Salt Lake Valley. These pioneers, who were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, came to Utah to have a place where they could freely practice their religion.

Before the Labour Day long weekend, I had a lovely " A journey through Cowboy Country" accompanied by my dear friend. This trip was enjoyable and memorable!!

P.S. Landed in Salt Lake City in the afternoon. Our tour started at dawn the next day morning. So we were able to see the sunrise at the Salt Lake.

Hello Gentlemen,

Salt Lake City is the capital and most populous municipality of the U.S. state of Utah, with an estimated population of 190,884. It is one of only two major urban areas in the Great Basin.

The world headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is located in Salt Lake City. The city was founded in 1847 by followers of the church, led by Brigham Young, who were seeking to escape persecution that they had experienced while living farther east. The Mormon pioneers, entered an arid valley and immediately began building, planning, and extending an extensive irrigation network which could feed the population and foster future growth. Salt Lake City's street grid system is based on a standard compass grid plan, with the Salt Lake Temple at the origin.

Hello Gentlemen,

Immigration of international members of the church, mining booms and the construction of the first transcontinental railroad initially brought economic growth, and Salt Lake City was nicknamed the Crossroads of the West. It was crossed by the Lincoln Highway-the first transcontinental highway in 1913. Two major cross-country freeways, I-15 and I-80, now intersect in the city.

Salt Lake City has developed a strong outdoor recreation tourist industry based primarily on skiing, and the city held the 2002 Winter Olympics. It is also the industrial banking center of the United States.

Below pictures are the Utah State Capitol. It is the house of government for the U.S. state of Utah, which is located on Capitol Hill, overlooking downtown Salt Lake City. It was built between 1912 and 1916.

Hello Gentlemen,

The Salt Lake Temple is a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) on Temple Square in Salt Lake City. It is the largest LDS temple by floor area. Dedicated in 1893, it is the sixth temple completed by the church, requiring 40 years to complete.

The temple includes some elements thought to evoke Solomon's Temple at Jerusalem. It is oriented towards Jerusalem and the large basin used as a baptismal font is mounted on the backs of twelve oxen, as was the Molten Sea in Solomon's Temple.

Hello Gentlemen,

The Church Office Building (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) is a 28-story building in Salt Lake City, which is the Mormon Church headquarters. Construction took place from 1962 to 1972. It houses the administrative support staff for the lay ministry of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) throughout the world. It is located in Temple Square, and it is the second-tallest building in Salt Lake City.

Hello Gentlemen,

The 2002 Winter Olympics--the XIX (19th) Olympic Winter Games was a winter multi-sport event that was celebrated from 8 to 24 February 2002 in and around Salt Lake City.

2,399 athletes from 78 nations participated in 78 events in fifteen disciplines, held throughout 165 sporting sessions. The 2002 Winter Olympics and the 2002 Paralympic Games were both organized by the Salt Lake Organizing Committee, the first time in Olympic and Paralympic history that both events were organized by a single committee. Utah became the fifth state in the United States to host the Olympic Games.

Hello Gentlemen,

The Teton Range is a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains in North America. It extends for approximately 64 km in a north–south direction through the U.S. state of Wyoming. It is south of Yellowstone National Park and most of the east side of the range is within Grand Teton National Park.

Early French voyageurs named the range les trois tétons ("the three nipples") after the distinct breast-like shapes of its peaks, from which the modern name is derived. It is likely that the local Shoshone people once called the whole range Teewinot, meaning "many pinnacles". The principal summits of the central massif are Grand Teton-13,775 feet (4,199 m).

Hello Gentlemen,

Jackson Hole, a valley and wilderness recreation area in western Wyoming, is bordered by the jagged peaks of the Tetons. Close to Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park, it’s home to upscale ski resorts, rustic campsites and dude ranches. Jackson is the valley’s lively main town, where Old West shopfronts mix with modern sites such as the National Museum of Wildlife Art.

The term "hole" was used by early trappers or mountain men, as a term for a large mountain valley. These low-lying valleys surrounded by mountains and containing rivers and streams are good habitat for beaver and other fur-bearing animals.

Hello Gentlemen,

Old Faithful is a cone geyser located in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. It was named in 1870 during the Washburn-Langford-Doane Expedition and was the first geyser in the park to receive a name. It is a highly predictable geothermal feature, and has erupted every 44 to 125 minutes since 2000.

Our tour guide told us that actually Old Faithful erupts every 60 to 90 mins and it is pretty accurate. It can reach heights between 100-200 feet. Eruption can last 1 to 5 mins. When our tour group arrived, luckily we only waited for 35 mins. Wow...Awe-inspiring! It’s amazing what God has made and the true wonder this is. There are benches to seat yourself while you wait. There is a boardwalks that takes the circuit along all of the nearby thermal features.

Hello Gentlemen,

Excelsior Geyser Crater is a dormant fountain-type geyser in the Midway Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park. Excelsior was named by the Hayden Geological Survey of 1871.

The Excelsior Geyser pool discharges 4,000 to 4,500 gallons of 199 °F (93 °C) water per minute directly into the Firehole River. In the late 19th century, it was an active geyser that erupted frequently. Most eruptions were about 100 feet high, although some exceeded 300 feet in both height and width. It is believed that the powerful eruptions damaged its internal plumbing system, and it now boils as a productive hot spring most of the time.

The Excelsior Geyser Crater is quite large and has incredible colors. The crystal clear turquoise color ponds gives out a constant stream of steam. This is a must stop if you are in Yellowstone Park. It's fairly easy walk up to the geysers.

Hello Gentlemen,

The Fountain Paint Pot is a mud pot located in Lower Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park.

The Fountain Paint Pot is named for the reds, yellows and browns of the mud in this area. The differing colors are derived from oxidation states of the iron in the mud. As with all hot springs, the heat in the caldera forces pressurized water up through the ground, which is expelled here. Also, rising gasses cause the bubbling action. The bubble action in the mud varies with the seasons. In the early summer, the mud is watery from the high water table due to rain and snow melt. By the end of summer, the mud is much thicker as the water table drops.

Several significant geysers erupt near the Paint Pots, notably Fountain Geyser, which usually has several large eruptions a day. Loved the hot pots. It’s a nice easy walk around a nicely built walkway above the hot pot floor. Very cool to see the different colors of the pools and the contrast in temperatures between all the pools. Highly recommended!

Hello Gentlemen,

Gibbon Falls is a waterfall on the Gibbon River in northwestern Yellowstone National Park. Gibbon Falls has a drop of approximately 84 feet. The falls are located roadside, 4.7 miles upstream from the confluence of the Gibbon and Firehole Rivers at Madison Junction on the Grand Loop Road.

The falls were first described by William Henry Jackson during the second Hayden geological survey of 1872. There is no historical record as to how they got their name.

Hello Gentlemen,

Stroll Through Norris Geyser Basin: our tour group arrived at the Norris Geyser Basin at 7 o'clock in the morning. It was early!

Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest, oldest and most dynamic of Yellowstone's thermal areas. The highest temperature yet recorded in any geothermal area in Yellowstone was measured in a scientific drill hole at Norris: 237°C just 326 meters below the surface! There are very few thermal features at Norris under the boiling point.

Norris shows evidence of having had thermal features for at least 115,000 years. The features in the basin change daily, with frequent disturbances from seismic activity and water fluctuations. The vast majority of the waters at Norris are acidic, including acid geysers which are very rare. Steamboat Geyser, the tallest geyser in the world at 91–122 m and Echinus Geyser (pH 3.5 or so) are the most popular features.

Hello Gentlemen,

The basin consists of two areas: Porcelain Basin and the Back Basin. Porcelain Basin is barren of trees and provides a sensory experience in sound, color, and smell; a 3/4-mile bare ground and boardwalk trail accesses this area. Back Basin is more heavily wooded with features scattered throughout the area. A 1.5-mile trail of boardwalks and bare ground encircles this part of the basin.

The area was named after Philetus W. Norris, the second superintendent of Yellowstone, who provided the first detailed information about the thermal features.

Wow...This place is like being on a different planet!! It is a stark contrast from the plush meadows, forests and snow-capped mountains. It's also fascinating to watch the bison wander around among the geysers and thermal pools. It is a must-see!

Hello Gentlemen,

The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is the first large canyon on the Yellowstone River downstream from Yellowstone Falls in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. The canyon is approximately 24 miles long.

The specifics of the geology of the canyon are not well understood, except that it is an erosional feature rather than the result of glaciation. After the caldera eruption of about 600,000 years ago, the area was covered by a series of lava flows. The area was also faulted by the doming action of the caldera before the eruption. The site of the present canyon, as well as any previous canyons, was probably the result of this faulting, which allowed erosion to proceed at an accelerated rate. The area was also covered by the glaciers that followed the volcanic activity.
