"Three rather equal elite young players: Mitch Marner, Brayden Point, Charlie McAvoy.
Point: 3 years, 19.5 million (actually $20.25mm)
McAvoy: 3 years, $14.7 million
Marner: 6 years, $65 million"
Mathew Tkachuk signed for 3 years, $21 million.

Kyle Dubas is spending money like a drunken sailor and what have the Leafs won? At least that guy (Dave Dombrowski) who was fired in Boston, for spending money like a drunken sailor, won a World Series.

The poll is now closed. Voter turnout (33) was pretty good. A majority expect/think/hope/pray the Leafs will make the playoffs.

They will start using real bullets starting Wednesday, October 2nd against the Senators.

Poll should have been closed the same day it opened. What a meaningless poll

You may have a valid point about the Leafs not having grit.
They lost to the tiny boys from Montreal (on home ice) last night.
Whether you like him or not, Don Cherry knows a thing or two about hockey (maybe even a bit more than the two self-appointed hockey experts in this Forum).

"Toronto was out-hit 44-17 in their season-opener against Ottawa (a 5-3 Leafs win) and 20-18 in their second game of the year, against Columbus (a 4-1 Leafs win)."

Gee, ever wonder who gets hit?
Clue: It's the player(s) with the puck.

When the Leafs are in last place by Jan 2020, it's a good sign the Leafs will win the cup. :first:

4 games is an extremely small sample. 5 points in 4 games is on a pace for 102 points for the season which, IMHO, is where the Leafs will end the season give or take 5-7 points.

Teams settle in after about 20 games into the season, that's when you start to see where they really fit in.
A bit to early to tell.

I don't disagree but I vaguely recall the Leafs had a great 1st half and barely made it into the playoffs with 100 points. On the other hand, the Blues had a horrible 1st half and an amazing 2nd half (and playoffs).

Anyway, the unpredictability is what makes sports so interesting.

Of course they will make the playoffs. I'd love for anyone to name me 8 Eastern conference opponents that they realistically think will have more points than the Leafs by end of the season. But I'm in the Don Cherry camp this roster is not built for a deep playoff run.

When i checked the standings earlier to-day, I noticed Leafs are tied with Penguins for a wild card. One point behind Florida and one point ahead of Montreal. Leafs have played one game more than Penguins, Florida and Montreal.

Teams in a playoff spot after Christmas make the playoffs 74% of the time. Unless you want to take a chance and do what the Blues did.

The problem is when they don’t have the puck. They’re not fighting hard to get it back and they’re making it easy for the opponents’ skilled players because they don’t hit hard and often enough.

not always sure...

The Leafs have started with a soft schedule, but it's early and things even out over time.
Of their 15 games so far, only 5 were against teams currently in a playoff position.
In their next 16 games, 10 are against teams currently in playoff position.
Currently Florida is only one point ahead of the Leafs, but 10 of Florida's 14 games so far were against playoff teams.

It'll be interesting to see how things look around Christmas.

They play Kings tonight. Leafs are well rested. If they can't beat the kings at home with their starter then all bets are off.

This has been clearly demonstrated in their losses against Montreal.
