Oddly enough no one much complains about the over-regulation of legitimate bank-users and the regulatory hoops they have to go through to get their money or keep the authorities happy whit its comings and goings. Even though only criminals take money that isn't theirs.

The laws are already in place for modifying firearms. And there are already laws for unlawful possession of restricted firearms (i.e.handguns). If handguns were "banned", would the criminal element now have fear thrust upon them for having a banned firearm? For them, it already is banned. Using it for a criminal purpose is another crime. Mandatory minimum sentences for these types of crimes were shot down (no pun intended) by the S.C.C. . The police know that the vast majority of handguns used in crimes are imported illegally from the US. Banning guns here would have little to no effect on that. What it would do is penalize lawful legitimate owners for the crimes committed by these idiots. The drive-by type shootings that have been becoming more common could have been (and luckily weren't) been committed by using long guns.
Actually it was the boatloads of African slaves the white Christians imported who did the major part of the hard work of early nation-building in North America.

Writing from south of your border here, from the Chicago area. There are literally people getting shot and killed everyday. However, the lame stream media downplays the violence unless the shooter is white and the shooting is deemed to be a mass shooting (which is four or more victims).
A typical weekend in summer the city averages 40 to 60 shootings, there are websites that joke about the over/under on the number of victims.
Most of the victims approximately 85% are black, there will be outrage for a short while until the next weekend. It's a cycle that repeats itself over and over.
