Iranians are ratcheting up the confrontation, I’d expect this will get messy.

Saudi Arabia reportedly shuts down half its oil production after drone attack

Saudi Arabia is shutting down half of its oil production after drones attacked the world's largest oil processing facility in the kingdom, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The closure will impact almost five million barrels of crude production a day, about 5% of the world's daily oil production, the WSJ reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Early Saturday, an oilfield operated by Saudi Aramco, the state-owned oil giant, was attacked by a number of drones, which sparked a huge fire at a processor crucial to global energy supplies.

Yemen's Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was one of their largest attacks ever inside the kingdom, the WSJ reported.

"We promise the Saudi regime that our future operations will expand and be more painful as long as its aggression and siege continue," a Houthi spokesman said. The attack involved 10 drones, the Houthis said.
The Saudi interior ministry said the fires were under control.

Saudi officials are considering drawing down their oil stocks to sell to foreign buyers to make sure world oil supplies won't be disrupted by the attack and shutdown, the WSJ reported.

The Iran-backed Houthis had been behind a series of attacks on Saudi pipelines, tankers and other infrastructure in the past few years as tensions rise among Iran and the U.S. and partners like Saudi Arabia.
The Islamic Republic, a target of U.S. sanctions for decades, has recently attacked oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, shot down a U.S. military drone and announced plans to execute 17 suspected U.S. spies.

Saudi Arabia is moving forward to take Saudi Aramco public in a major shakeup of the kingdom's energy sector. The world's most profitable oil company is expected to be valued at more than $1.5 trillion, CNBC previously reported. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has pushed for a valuation of as much as $2 trillion.

Coincidence isn't it?

An attack on Saudi oilfields in the wake of 9/11, an attack that the barbaric Saudi regime is responsible for.

If we react like headless chickens on Monday then they have won. The Saudi's desperately want Americans to invade Iran, a war that would require the killing of 1/3 of Iran's population to win and the destruction of priceless treasures that the Saudis envy.

Are we going to be chicken livered sissies on Monday?

Price of oil will skyrocket
We’ll see. It sounds like the Saudis are taking steps to stabilize oil prices at least in the short term.

From the article above,
Saudi officials are considering drawing down their oil stocks to sell to foreign buyers to make sure world oil supplies won't be disrupted by the attack and shutdown, the WSJ reported.

In the long term, tho, who knows? If the Saudis can’t effectively fend off these drone attacks it opens up a whole new world of terrorist/guerilla warfare tactics.

This is Iran rocking the boat, putting pressure on the West and taking advantage now that "Mustache" is gone.

Saudi Arabia is no better, Mister Bone Saw is hardly someone we should support in any way.

If Yemen can hit SA's plants with drones, this Yemen war will end soon.

Since Saudi's money is mainly from oil, odds are they will ratchet up their activities forcing Iran to either provide more support to the Houthis (or get involved more directly) or lose face by having their proxy lose to Iran's chief regional opponent.

I thought the Groper didn't want to sell to SA because of their human rights issues.

Trump has always been willing to sell to MBS, he already said he's ok with MBS killing journalists 'cuz they buy lots of US weapons.

We live in an era where Iran can send their proxies plans to build a drone using chainsaw engines and cellphones for guidance and take out a facility at the cost of 5.7B/day.. Billions in the latest US weapons cannot defend against such an attack..its over.

Only two things are clear right now. Nobody knows(officially) where the drones originated from. And, the air defences had a night off, both the Saudi and American(fleet outpost in Bahrain). Unintended consequences due to Iran's backing- even tighter cooperation between the Gulf States, America and Israel. Domestically, energy independence displacing left's push for eliminating the energy sector- Canada and U.S.

Drones might have originated from Saudi. They were
desperate to lift oil prices to balance their budget.

Israel/U.S. had the technology to intercept scud missile attacks
from Iraq in the Gulf War. Hard to believe Saudi was not able
to shot down some dinky drones from Yemen 3 decades later.

Drones are small, can fly very low and are hard to track. SA has been in war with Yemen, which started as a Houthi youth rebellion, since 2014. Its a brutal war that may have killed 100,000. Over the last year or so they've started using drones, this isn't the first drone attack, just the most effective. Meanwhile, the rest of the world has been trying to chastise MBS over this war. The US has passed a few bills to stop Saudi arms sales over the war but Trump has vetoed them each time.
Its unlikely that Iran provided these drones, but possible.

The big question is how long SA oil is off market and if they can scrape by until its repaired. Likely the Houthis have found MBS' weak spot which will either result in SA trying to go nuts on Yemen or them drawing back from a war that isn't going anywhere. Big armies can't beat guerrilla warfare longterm.

The REAL evaulation of the Patriot missile in the gulf war was that it was 100% unsuccessful...
