Vince Taylor and his Playboys first recorded Brand New Cadillac as a b-side in 1959, it was later covered nicely by the Clash on 1979’s London Calling album.
There's a great story I've watched Bowie explain in an interview: Bowie was at a Vince Taylor show and Taylor totally lost his mind. He came out on stage in a makeshift robe and carrying some kind of fruit. He wanted to share it all with the 'beautiful audience' and let them know they were blessed to be there. "You see, I'm (Taylor) not from this planet. I have been sent here by advanced beings from another galaxy to show you superior music, benevolence and harmony".

Initially everyone thought it was part of the show but as it went on and on it was clear Taylor was being real (in his head) about this. As Bowie put it: "he was out of his gourd".

Taylor's career was done but the moment inspired Bowie to come up with Ziggy Stardust. A rock star from outer space arrived here to make great music.

We got to thank Vince Taylor for that.

Just thought I'd share.

Jimi's version is by far the better-known, but Bob Dylan's is the original.

I never knew this until recently, especially since it's one of my ATF songs.

Huey Lewis version is a cover of this one. They both sound quite similar.

Exile were best known for their hit song Kiss You All Over.

Somebody ought to start a music related thread which excludes anything prior to 1990. I am as old, or older than most of you, but have a good laugh when people still reference bands like April Wine. Modern, contemporary music is excellent. Download Spotify, pay $9/ mth, and enjoy.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not passing judgement. Simply an observation. This reminds me a little of my parents tastes in music when growing up in the 60s and 70s. At that time, I couldn’t stand Buddy Holly, Elvis, Dean Martin, Paul Anka. And, they were relatively modern, having recorded during the past 20 years.
The music many of you reference, is 40 years or older. In the 60s, that would be tantamount to prohibition era rockabilly or early jazz.

Great cover of By The Time I Get To Phoenix by Isaac Hayes. Turn down the lights, pour a drink and settle in for 19 minutes of his atmosphere.

The Boss also composed "Fire" , a huge hit for the "Pointer Sisters"

To my knowledge, Bruce has never had a #1 hit that he recorded. Pointer Sisters' cover of Fire went to #1.

George Harrison was the first Beatle to hit #1 on Billboard with My Sweet Lord and the last Beatle to do it with Got My Mind Set On You.
He bought the original version while visiting his sister in the USA in 1963 before he became famous here. Great taste in music.

If You Gotta Make A Fool Of Somebody was the first hit for Freddie and the Dreamers, they learned it from the Beatles.
It was first recorded by James Ray in 1961. Sadly he died of a drug overdose at an early age.
