Hey Shack, your BFF just showed up again.Dart shows his lack of knowledge again.
Better would be for you to prove him wrong.Hey Shack, your BFF just showed up again.
I think the Olympics is one of the few sports events where they hand out medals to the second and third place finishers. There should be no silver or bronze medals at the Olympics since those athletes were not good enough to win.
Of course, but they won't get a perfect 6 or whatever complicated system they use now.skaters can miss jumps and still win in spite of failing.
So the Olympics approach should change. Failure and perfection are not necessarily polar opposites. An athlete fails to come in first yet is still rewarded with a medal, which goes against what you don't like, i.e. rewarding failure. Get rid of field goals and get rid of silver and bronze and get rid of monetary prizes for all but first place. Do not reward failure which is the basis of you starting this thread. You started with field goals and I am simply widening the scope of your peeve to include other sports/competitions. I don't see why you would object or is OK to reward failure in other sports but not in football only?I think the Olympics is one of the few sports events where they hand out medals to the second and third place finishers.
Let's take the NHL as an example. The Bruins got no no trophy and their players got no ring for being runner-up. Same with individual awards. The Art Ross Trophy goes only to the winner, no trophy for second and third place finisher.
Monetary prizes do not reward failure. That is why the winner gets the biggest purse.get rid of monetary prizes for all but first place.
I think you are arguing against yourself or maybe setting a double standard.Monetary prizes do not reward failure. That is why the winner gets the biggest purse.
Even the Olympics doesn't reward failure. That is why the winner gets Gold and not Silver or Bronze.
I'm not aware of any sport that rewards failure. Football is a bit weird because even when the team fails to score a touchdown, they can still get some points by kicking a FG.
Do you get partial goals in hockey and soccer, do you get partial points in basketball, do you get partial runs in baseball? Either you score or you don't. Why should you get partial points when you don't score a TD?You don't like the fact that you can get points despite not getting a TD,
I pointed out cases where failure is rewarded as your example of field goals. Try addressing those instead of situations that anyone realizes do not apply.Do you get partial goals in hockey and soccer, do you get partial points in basketball, do you get partial runs in baseball? Either you score or you don't. Why should you get partial points when you don't score a TD?
Anyway, I know you are resistant to change.
No, failure is not rewarded in sports. Your examples actually proved that. Even in the Olympics, the athlete who doesn't win doesn't get Gold, they get Silver, Bronze or nothing. In the NHL the failure Bruins don't get a trophy and their players don't get a ring.I pointed out cases where failure is rewarded
Actually, I am resistant to stupidity. No, failure is not rewarded in sports. Your examples actually proved that. Even in the Olympics, the athlete who doesn't win doesn't get Gold, they get Silver, Bronze or nothing. In the NHL the failure Bruins don't get a trophy and their players don't get a ring.
Admit it, you are simply resistant to change/new ideas. You are a staunch defender of the status quo.
Actually, the thread was about how long a football could be kicked until somebody hijacked it and started talking about banning FGs and goalposts. That was not the topic now, was it? Once the topic gets changed anything can happen.I have no issues if someone wants to keep FG and converts or even the tiny sandbox they call a football field. I think the game would be better minus FG and converts and expand the dimension of the playing surface. That's my view and that's that.
Question: How did a bunch of sumo wrestlers and figure skaters get into a thread about football and FG's? Is that your attempt to muddy the waters?
The Boston Bruins do get a trophy, The Prince of Wales Trophy, emblematic of winning the Eastern Conference of the NHL.Let's take the NHL as an example. The Bruins got no no trophy and their players got no ring for being runner-up. Same with individual awards. The Art Ross Trophy goes only to the winner, no trophy for second and third place finisher.
Question: I'm not really a golf fan but I notice the winner of the Masters gets the green jacket. Is there no jacket for the guy who finished second? Maybe the second place finisher should get an orange jacket and the third place finisher a plaid jacket.
Ok, you can't be serious.I think the Prince of Wales Trophy is the one the players refuse to touch.
Back to FG's, if they ever start kicking 70, 80, 90 yard FG's, I'm going to stop watching football altogether. Why bother trying to score TD's when you have a guy who can kick 70 yard FG's?
The sad thing is, is that he is serious.Ok, you can't be serious.
The Prince of Wales Trophy, also known as the Wales Trophy, is an award presented by the ... A superstition that is prevalent among many of today's NHL players is that no player should either touch or hoist the WalesOk, you can't be serious.
