Sure....they wiped out LOLOLOL Looks like he took Butts back to say stupidities..

Opinion: About 80% of all cannabis bought in Canada is being purchased on the illegal market, far from the 50% figure claimed.

The federal election is just a few months away, which means Canadians are going to be bombarded with claims from the government about its apparent successes, while at the same time hearing endless counter arguments from opposition parties. In this sea of endless noise, it can be difficult to parse out where the federal government actually stands on its claims, and whether the opposition parties have legitimate grievances, or are just opposing for the sake of opposing.

When election day does come, Canada will be a year in to cannabis legalization, which gives us a good opportunity to reflect on how things have gone thus far. Legalization is smart policy overall. That said, at nearly the one-year mark, there is lots to reflect on regarding Canada’s cannabis legalization experiment.

Just last week new StatsCan figures came out in regards to consumer behaviour and cannabis usage. Some interesting facts emerged, like the fact that men are two times more likely to consume cannabis than women are, and that men are more likely to use cannabis for non-medicinal reasons. In addition to usage patterns, StatsCan revealed that 48 per cent of cannabis consumers surveyed said they purchased some of their cannabis in the legal market. As soon as the report came out, Trudeau’s right-hand man, Gerry Butts, and senior policy adviser Tyler Meredith, were quick to pat themselves on the back for “wiping out half of the illegal market.” Wiping out half of the illegal market would be incredible, and something worth congratulating, if it were true.

Well the shutting down of the unlicensed dispensaries did put a major dent in the black market I will admit that is true.
No it did not. The sales just moved online. Oh, and Indian reserves- no permits or lottery required and beyond the reach of the LAW.

Legal pot will NEVER out sell black market pot.
For 2 basic reasons. 1) cost and 2) nobody is going to make a drive to a pot store when they can make a call or have it delivered to them by their dealer. I live in the Niagara Region. There are only 2 legal pot stores.Who the hell is going to drive 30 mins or more just to get weed when there dealer is probably around the corner.

One of my friends family had a dispensary in Hamilton. Do you have any idea how much they were raking in per day? The online business is still good but nearly in the same ballpark. I've seen the figures.

The reserves I know little of.

As for the legal stores well there priced way to high. The cheapest option in my area is $38 for 3.5 grams. The highest price option is $75. If one was to want an ounce then those numbers would just be prorated or multiplied by 8. So there is no incentive to buy more than 3.5 grams financially.

And not to mention the flower comes in sealed generic containers that don't allow the customer to see or smell the product before purchase. Some is just already ground up and usually overly dry. It really makes for a negative buying experience and is poorly conceived.

The illegal dispensaries had a great price structure and a way better customer experience. Not to mention a more helpful staff. They were literally cash cows and made millionaires out of their owners.

Canadian pot jobs, revenue have soared since legalization: StatsCan:

StatsCan reported Thursday that there are 9,200 people currently working in the Canadian cannabis sector, up from 2,630 in the fiscal 2018 year and 1,438 in fiscal 2017. Meanwhile, the number of companies in the industry is now tallied at 175, up from 83 a year earlier and 37 in 2017, StatsCan said.

As of April, total assets in Canada’s cannabis space reached $4.2 billion, almost double the $2.5 billion that was counted in fiscal 2018, and a significant jump from $704 million in fiscal 2017, according to StatsCan. Investment spending also rose rapidly with $233 million spent in 2018, up from a scant $46 million the prior fiscal year.
