High-Ranking Mormon Official Caught Recording Woman In Store Dressing Room
by Lindsey Weedstona
A woman had to call the police after she spotted an iPhone recording her as she undressed in an H&M dressing room in Nashville, Tennessee, last week. After Steven Murdock was arrested for filming a woman changing without her consent, it was soon revealed that he is not just your everyday mall-trolling sexual predator. He’s a high-ranking member of the Mormon church.
According to the local news station, Murdock guided a woman to the H&M dressing room, possibly trying to pass himself off as an employee. The victim had undressed to her waist when she noticed the iPhone in the corner of the room recording her. She quickly got dressed and left her dressing room to ask for help in calling the police when Murdock then exited the dressing room right next to hers. When she confronted him, she saw him deleting photos of her.
“I was kind of cornering him, kind of grabbing his arms, and I did watch him delete photos of me on his phone,” she said. “Thankfully I was able to slap it out of his hand and take it and run out.”
Murdock’s wife reportedly begged the victim not to call the police, but she apparently did anyway, and now we know why: It turns out that the man is a “high councilor” in the Mormon church living in Holiday, Utah.
Murdock was charged with “unlawful photography,” a misdemeanor in the state of Tennessee, and released from jail on a $1,000 bond.
In spite of her good work catching Murdock and standing up for herself, the victim still has to deal with the emotional fallout.
“Unfortunately, I felt disgusted with myself. I felt like what did I do wrong, what if I wouldn’t have done this, or wouldn’t have worn this,” Alcala said. “I did feel violated, I felt gross, why is this happening to me?”
People commenting on the story are largely blaming Murdock and his enablers, not the victim, thankfully.
