Just a quickie. I was watching a true crime bad neighbors show last night and got increasingly indignant. Story was, small town Minnesota. Long time, across the street neighbors.Long time festering dispute. One guy liked deer and encouraged them to come around by installing feeder in his front yard. Fed them corn. Neighbor across the street complained and eventually got Lyme disease. Reasonably blamed his neighbor. Asked him to desist. Neighbor refused. Situation escalated. Neighbor with grievance settled problem with gun. The narrative seemed to give the dick with the deer a pass and blamed the neighbor with Lyme disease. Who ended up getting life.
My reaction was. The guy deserved to get shot. Why be a dick?

Maybe the deer deserved to get shot. Not the neighbour

If the Lyme disease had been fatal, he'd have been justified to go after his neighbour with a gun.

Since all he suffered was the common joint pains and tiredness he just gets to whack the neighbour in the elbows and knees occasionally and keep him up at night.

Americans seem to think everything can be solved with a gun; they need to try other tools the rest of the world found more effective centuries back. You know what they say about guys who have only a hammer, and their limited problem-solving skill set.

What did the by- laws say about what the neighbor was doing.

If there were laws against drawing wild animals into populated areas, then he should have reported the neighbor.
If no such laws existed, he should have contacted his counselor, and petitioned city hall to make such a law. Wouldn't have been too difficult, if he could prove the Lyme disease he got was a direct result of what his neighbor was doing. Just use the "think of the children" line, and they cave pretty quick.

Civil suit is also another avenue he could have taken.

The likelihood the neighbour caught anything from deer visiting another neighbours yard in a leafy manicured suburban Minnesota neighbourhood is ... real slim. Unless the guy was hiding in the neighbours bushes spying on the family, real slim.

From Sciencenews, independent, nonprofit science journalism, it would seem the use of lethal force is more about being American, or a mad Zimbabwean, than anything real. The permanent damage fear is also a bit of an overblown worry. “The odds of getting Lyme disease from an individual deer tick bite are pretty low: Even in tick-ridden areas, less than 5 percent of bites result in an infection. But those that do are easy to deal with, Sood says. “Lyme disease is completely treatable. All the symptoms literally melt away with antibiotics.”

Again, unless the neighbour was stalking the family hiding in their bushes beside the deer feeders... I couldn’t find any evidence that limes would cross the street to menace anyone. Lemons on the other hand, pugnacious, sour little bastards. No barriers would stop them coming for ya.
