Wanted POS pedofile, murderer etc
Peel Regional police are on the hunt for a 31-year-old man after he allegedly shot a woman and fled the scene in a stolen police vehicle in Mississauga.
Police were called to the area around Sandford Farm Park just after 2:45 p.m. Tuesday for reports of gunfire.
The shooting reportedly was the result of a fight between a man and woman. She was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The relationship between the suspect and the victim is unknown at this time.
The suspect fled on foot to Stargazer Drive where he was involved in an altercation with a police officer before jumping into a cruiser. Police attempted to subdue him as he fled but were unsuccessful. There was an attempt to Taser him and shots were also fired by police.
The cruiser was hit by bullets and the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is now investigating.
The man fled the scene in the cop car, which was found a short distance away on Idlewilde Crescent. There was blood on the driver’s side door and a Taser was found on the ground next to it.
The suspect then abandoned the police car, stole a civilian vehicle and continued to flee. His cellphone was later found in the area of Highway 401 and Martin Grove Road.
He was last seen driving a 2013 white Hyundai Sante Fe SUV with license plate AYVL 950 and police say both the suspect and vehicle are still outstanding.
He has been identified as Michael Cleghorn of no fixed address and is described as a black male with a medium complexion, six feet two inches tall, 180 pounds and wearing white tennis shoes.
The SIU confirms “evidence in the cruiser indicates the man may have sustained an injury.”
Police say he may attempt to seek medical treatment but he should not be approached and should be considered armed and extremely dangerous.
Detectives confirm Cleghorn is also wanted for the sexual assault of a child in Toronto from 2014 to 2015 and the murder of a 21-year-old Thunder Bay man in 2017.
A neighbour who lives a few doors down from where the victim was shot tells CityNews the man was possibly injured prior to getting into the cop car.
“I pulled into the driveway and I saw the two people fighting and exchanging verbally abusive language,” says Mariam Khan. “Then, I didn’t look, but I heard the guy scream that he got attacked and he’s bleeding. Then as I was entering the house I heard the gunshot go.”
The SIU is asking anyone with information or video footage of the incident to get in touch with them.
Nearby YMCA Credit Valley Junior and Happy Hands and Minds Daycare were placed in a hold and secure, but it has since been lifted.
