Has McDonald's been putting onion shreds or flavoring into their burgers?

I know McDonald's has announced plans to "improve" some of their burgers by various changes, including using onions in the cooking process, but I suspect they have been infusing their burger meat with onion shreds or flavoring for at least the past month.

I used to love Quarter Pounders with Cheese, but for the past while I have detected that cooked oniony note which is ruining the taste for me.

From now on it's Holy Chuck or The Burger's Priest whenever possible, for that 100% pure beef taste!

Has anybody else noticed this?

Well, so what if they do? Nothing wrong with seasoning meat before you cook it.
Many people don't like the taste of onions or can't handle onions . Would you be OK if they seasoned their meat with hot chilly peppers if you didn't like chilly peppers or couldn't handle the heat .

If Mac is gonna add onions than they should tell the public that they are doing so .

So yes it's a big deal if your looking for just plain meat for your burger .

Imho the burger should be 100% beef with nothing added except basic seasoning to start. Then each customer should be given the choice of what condiments, unusual seasoning, and vegetables including onions, to be added before the burger is served.

At McDonald's they assume you will want ketchup, pickles, etc. on your Quarter Pounder, but you have the option of asking them to not serve it with some or all of those condiments. There is no option to get rid of the onion taste I am detecting.

I’m seeing another New Coke scenario about to play out here. Don’t mess with products people love.

Comparing McDonalds to a place like Holy Chuck or Burger Priest is laughable

As with most fast food places (note the term fast) food is mass produced in a consistent way
If you want to make a change they will do it for you, but you either need to ask them when ordering or enter the options on self serve kiosks / apps

And yes you can deselect onions although you do contradict yourself (as the powdered onion used as a seasoning is ok according to you as "basic seasoning" right above???)
Seasoning is alot more than just salt / pepper

If they have added powdered onion to the basic seasoning that is the very thing I am objecting to. When I order using the kiosk I modify the standard Quarter Pounder by de-selecting mustard, ketchup, pickles, and onions they add as condiments.

There is no option to ask them to not use shredded or powdered onion in the basic seasoning. As I said before i have only noticed the new oniony flavor in the past month or so, so it must be a recent revision to their basic seasoning.

Also obviously there is no comparison between McDonald's and The Burger's Priest or Holy Chuck, etc. But for a quick and convenient burger McDonald's was just fine for me, and now it's been spoiled.

Patties should be 100% if it's advertised as so...or if it's plant based...then they should say it is...onions or any spice add-ons should be included as toppings...I would go wendy's than try another mc burger anyways...

OK, then maybe they could say something like seasoned beef patties.
But since you brought up plant based, do any of the plant based burger places actually tell you what's in the plant based burgers? Plant based can mean anything, from week, to a dusting of cocaine, to dandelion, to rotting wood in the Manitoba Gillam forest to whatever. With beef at least it is usually 100% beef. But this is probably a different discussion thread

Its powdered

Act law has strict requirements on percentages
But ironically 100% does not mean 100%
There is no such thing as true 100% beef (at least not in Canada, who knows other countries but I bet US is equal or worse to us)

You shouldn't be eating that trash anyway. I get physically sick after eating McDonald's.

They've been putting onions into the burgers for years. The change is to add them while it's cooking rather than during processing.

Interesting if true. But are you referring to their new "caramelized onions to be added while the meat is cooking" policy just announced last week, to be tested in Australia and Canada only?

Cuz I've noticed the flavour change for at least the past month or so. Prior to that their beef tasted similar to competition, with no onion overtones, though of course generally not as good as the more upscale burger specialists.

For fast food burgers McDonald's was my favourite, followed by Burger King and then Wendy's. I actually liked Harvey's best, but their seasoning, while adding to my enjoyment and still tasting like 100% beef, often caused me acid indigestion so was a no-go for an evening meal.

I am not familiar with The Burger's Priest and Holy Chuck. Are they better tasting than MacDonald's? Where are they located?

Both have a couple locations now. Burger’s Priest, I feel the portion sizes are too small. The burgers are tiny for what they charge for them. Holy Chuck, I used to live a block away from the original location. That place is dangerous. They have a burger with one beef patty, cheese, and a patty made entirely out of bacon. Grind their meat fresh in store all day. Amazing shakes, too. Love the Nutella salted caramel and bacon, fudge, and sea salt shakes. Very good fries as well.

First Holy Chuck is at Yonge and St Clair, there’s one at Yonge and Wellesley, I think, and one up north somewhere. Might be a couple more locations now. Great place, the owner’s a good guy too. A couple of my buddies and I were there for the grand opening and he gave us free fries, shakes, and ice cream sandwiches (sandwiched between two cookies and rolled in bacon. Delicious!).

There is a Holy Chuck at 4421 Hwy 7, south side, between Hwy 400 and Pine Valley.

The Burger's Priest I go to is on the NW corner of Dufferin and Orfus, near Yorkdale Shopping Center, and New Yorkdale Spa.

I give a slight edge to Holy Chuck for their burgers, and a larger edge to them for their fries.
