Not a Slam but some very good players will be participating. Warm up for the U.S. Open.

Too bad Bianca Andreescu and Genie Bouchard face each in the first round.

If Bianca is healthy, Genie is going to get crushed again. Bianca needs a good tournament in order to get ready to make a run at the US Open. We'll know once she serves.

The promotion for this event still focused heavily on Genie. All she has to do is show up.

I can'[t see too many serious fans cheering for Bouchard in that one. She had and mostly squandered her chance to be a serious perennial contender. The fall and concussion were not her fault. Her focus on cashing in on her looks is all on her.

Andreescu is now the women's flag bearer to make Canadians proud on the court. She seems much more devoted to being a hard working professional.

I don't follow tennis as closely as I use to but it seems to me that there is no one or three players who dominate the women's tour. Serena is seeded 8th.

Bianca is the daughter of immigrants, she's been conditioned to hard work. Genie is Westmount Blue Blood, she making way more money on her brand than the sweat and blood required to improve her game.

Tennis Canada's Virginie Tremblay and Bianca's assistant coach is now also working with FAA. She's scorching hot!

On the men’s side, one of the aspects I always look forward to is the colour commentary by Jimmy Arias. He’s bluntly honest, knowledgeable and entertaining. I like his work better than that of either McEnroe brother.

I'm at the Aviva Tennis Center taking it all in. Ash Barty is currently on court against a promising young American.

Looking forward to the Genie vs Bianca match. If Bianca is healthy she has a serious shot at becoming the first Canadian to win the US Open.

Anett Kontaveit defeated Maria Sharapova, a Balt is not going to pass up a chance to beat a Russian.

Is the American the 15 year old who defeated Venus?

Looking forward to the Genie vs Bianca match.
Do the organizers have any leeway in setting up matches? It's ridiculous to have matches where Canadians eliminate Canadians.

That is why it is called "the luck of the draw".

FAA has just defeated another Canadian male.

Let's see what happens with the Canadian ladies to-night. Genie is now ranked 104.

No that's Cori Gauff, Ash Barty is the workhorse Australian who won the French Open. She's currently ranked no. 1 but lost in the opening round to another talented young American Sofia Kenin.

Genie vs Bianca...a great day with a surprise great match.

After 9 weeks on the shelf Bianca had court rust, Genie managed to defend against her power well and won the first set. In the second set Bianca got her topspin working, Genie had no answer. Genie rallied in the third set and broke Bianca's serve in the 7th game, an upset was in the making. Unfortunately for Genie her service game did her in again, her second serve is suicide and Bianca feasted on it. She broke Genie twice including match point to take it. Genie was motivated, good effort, but like Frasier Crane who didn't know what to do with those Tall Sallys and scrambled eggs, Genie can't figured out what to do with her service game. If she put aside her media mogul ways she could be a decent player. Is she willing to put in the world.

There is a sequel to Bend it like Beckham coming...Spin it like Nadaaaal - Bianca did. Genie's doubles partner Sharon Fichman called Bianca "a Frankenstein player".

Ash Barty, currently world No.1, lost to Sophia Kenin. It was against Kenin that Bianca withdrew from the French Open. Cori Gauff aside, these two could dominate female tennis in the coming decade.

If you can apply the heavy topspin like Rafael Nadal your chances of winning the match stand at approximately 60%. Opponents have no idea where the ball is going after it lands, that's why Milos can't beat the Spaniard. Its also why Bianca was able to beat Angelique Kerber at Indian Wells. The downside is it's hard on the shoulders.

Milos vs FAA today.

Hate these matchups. A Canadian will eliminate another Canadian. It's like killing your own.

Serena is making her first appearance on court to-night. I think Venus is also in the tournament. A reporter at Wimbledon asked if she had any plans to retire. Her answer was: "What will I do after I retire?"

Venus is just about done, she lost to Suarez Navarro, an opponent she used to beat with ease in the past.

Naomi Osaka is in action today, she's had a letdown after winning the Australian Open.

2 Slams and she is only 21.

"Naomi Osaka is a professional tennis player who represents Japan. She is the reigning champion in women's singles at the US Open and the Australian Open. Osaka is ranked No. 2 by the Women's Tennis Association and is a former world No. 1 player. She is the first Asian player to hold the top ranking in singles. Wikipedia
