Once Bianca is match fit, she will beat Naomi.

Romanians claim her as their own but she was born in Mississauga. The family moved to Thornhill once she was accepted into Tennis Canada. She has trained with Tessa Shapovalova during her formative years. She grew up playing with and against Denis Shapovalov.

Born 16.06.2000 and current Indian Wells Champion. Didn't know where Indian Wells was, it's in California's interior desert. Part of a trio of affluent towns near The Joshua Tree National Park, the others are Palm Springs and Coachella.

2 Slams and she is only 21.

"Naomi Osaka is a professional tennis player who represents Japan. She is the reigning champion in women's singles at the US Open and the Australian Open. Osaka is ranked No. 2 by the Women's Tennis Association and is a former world No. 1 player. She is the first Asian player to hold the top ranking in singles. Wikipedia
Born: October 16, 1997 (age 21 years)"

Hate these matchups. A Canadian will eliminate another Canadian. It's like killing your own.
And Brits play Brits at Wimbledon. Americans face each other at the U.S. Open. Same in Australia, France ,Italy etc. That's just the way it goes.

Bianca isn't remotely fit she would have gone through Genie and Kasatkina if she were.

The Russian tried to extend the rallies and it was working. Bianca looked cooked but she found her second wind and took the match. I don't expect her to win the Roger's Cup, she just has to get her matches in to be ready for the US Open.

I think Genie is headed for the broadcasting booth. Apparently, she is fluently bilingual (but so was Tessa Bonhomme when she interviewed for the French network and didn't get an offer).

===============================================================

It's painful watching Canadian go against Canadian. The FAA/Raonic match could go 3 sets but Raonic is experiencing back issues.

Update: Raonic withdrews.
Shack: Please don't say this is common knowledge.

Question: How often does it happen 3 times in the same tournament?

I got a boner watching Andreescu play Bouchard. That's the best thing I can say about tennis.

That's fine, good to know that you have a likin for big powerful women.

As for the other Canadians. Shapo has gotten considerably stronger physically since last year. His serve now has considerable pop. He still needs to cut down on his unforced errors, he could have beaten Thiem.

Milos made a strategic decision to withdraw against FAA, he's brittle and needs to be fit for the US Open. FAA could go deep, his only weakness was his return of serve and he seems to have corrected that.

And finally a word on Lovely Nick Kyrgios. After winning the ATP Washington he was back to his old tricks. It's damn frustratin it iz! He the only player in the tour to have victories against each of The Big Three.

And yes I did have a bizarre dream about Mr. Lovely. What can't Nick Kyrgios be like Endicott?

I imagine that it is quite common. Just a wild guess but I wouldn't be surprised if you saw (between the men and the women) at the U.S. Open in a few weeks, 8 matches between compatriots in the 1st round alone.

Don't think that I ever saw the word "lovely" associated with Nicky let alone capitalized. LOL.
Nick Kyrgios actually is a lovely human being. His problem is that he enjoys teaching tennis than playing it. He's given impromptu lessons at the Roger's Cup before and his fans eat them up. They say he is the sweetest, funniest man when teaching. Ok I'll use Sweet Nick Kyrgios then.

It should have been a great day for Canadian Tennis. Shapo beat himself, yesterday, with unforced errors again. FFA looked sensational for the first set and five games into the second. Then Khatcha stepped it up, playing some of the best tennis I've seen from him and won.

Bianca did it again! She went through Kiki Bertens in the first set, then hubris took hold of her in the second. She went down 0-3 before eventually losing the second set in a tie breaker. In the third set, she broke Bertens serve in the 6th game and held hers throughout, even though going down 0 - 40 twice, to win the watch. She's still not match fit but she's making great strides. She's going to make a serious run at the US Open.

Next up Katerina Pliskova.

Nice to hear, but unfortunately, 99% of the time when we see him is on court or in interviews where, TBH, he is a boor.

It's like saying that trump is a sweetheart because he is nice to Ivanka.

Bianca survives a roller coaster match. 6-0 in the 1st but goes down 0-5 in the 2nd and loses. Then in the 3rd she is down a break AND needs a medical time out with a groin strain but comes back to win 6-4.

1st Canadian women in the semis since 1979, 40 long years.

Bianca is showing Shapo and FAA what it takes to be a champion. Tomorrow, The Future, Sofia Kenin can defend like Simona Halep.

Tennis Canada reached it's nadir when Montreal native Greg Rusedski chose to play for Britain. Since then it was a long hard road back. They got a government grant to improve their infrastructure - sometimes these items are not a waste of tax payer money. They finally started to produce players of quality with Bianca the end product.

I've picked a song for Bianca which I'll play after every victory. Close to home, I know these guys.

It is obvious Bianca is not 100% physically. We know about the groin but how is her shoulder? Also, I think 4 of her first 5 matches went the full 3 sets and the 5th match seem like a 3 setter. Regardless of what happens in the finals, she done well. Bring on Serena.

Nadal (remember him?) is in the men's finals.

Did Serena say "no mas"?

She withdrew due to injury, Bianca is the 2019 Rogers Cup Women's Champion.

Bianca established her heavy topspin from the beginning and broke Serena's serve. Before she retired Bianca was returning Serena's serve with ease. If the match continued, it would have been interesting to see if Bianca could sustain it. Serena was gracious, at 37 she can't move like she once did, that top spin would have beaten her down by attrition. Don't know what the injury is, she could be saving herself for the US Open.

Spin it like Nadaaaaaaal, congratulations Bianca.

Apparently she told Bianca it was back spasms. Nonetheless, still a great achievement this week for Bianca, she will have lots of confidence heading to the U.S. Open.

Besides winning the Rogers Cup, Bianca demonstrated tremendous sportsmanship and compassion towards Serena!
