This is so shameful. Fuck people! I can’t have respect for anyone who disrespects cops and encourages this behaviour. This is exactly what this type of mindset enables. Such a sad time... has anyone seen the suicide rates in NYC cops. This is the end effect and undermining cops and it will just get worse.

DISRESPECT: This is what #NYPD Officers are faced with today. Petrified to take action. #BlueLivesMatter @NYCMayor @BilldeBlasio @NYPDnews @NYPD73Pct
NYPD Chief Terence Monahan: “The videos of cops being doused with water and having objects hurled at them as they made an arrest in Harlem is reprehensible. NYC’s cops & communities have made remarkable progress — together — but EVERY New Yorker MUST show respect for our cops...”

https://twitter.com/nyscanner/status/1153357145389326336?s=21 I can’t watch this all the way through. Fuck man!

I hate it when people post Politics in The Lounge. There’s a separate section for this stuff.

No I disagree.

Cops in principle should be immune to politics and serve and protect to the same standards regardless of the political party in question unless the laws change.

Cops are not political pawns and people need to stop using them as such. There is consequences to this such as what you see in that video and it is affecting their morale and their duty to serve and protect the public and their suicide rates are increasing.

4 Officer Suicides in 3 Weeks: N.Y.P.D. Struggles to Dispel Mental Health Stigma
A cluster of police suicides has prompted leaders to plead with troubled officers to seek help.
Fuck your politics, this is much bigger then that bullshit.

They got wet. Oh the horror.

No horror when they abuse their power and really 'wet up' people. Hardly any outrage from the penny section about cops talking about giving AOC some 'rounds'. Very similar to the cop who expressed the desire to kill Obama when he got elected. A bigger problem than some from the penny section care to admit.

Respect is a 2 way street.

The liberal media has told them that cops are bad and that they're targets of shootings because of race, and therefore they think it's okay to disrespect law enforcement. Sadly, that's not the case at all: https://fee.org/articles/our-resear...ls-who-is-the-likeliest-to-be-shot-by-police/
That's the small-minded, partisan 'political' interpretation of the title: Attach left-right labels and predict hostile responses from those you see as 'other', without considering the content. I'll offer some standard political-theory: law — and law enforcement **—**is a necessary, essential and inescapable part of any government. No one — left, centre or right — of adult years is stupid enough to think it is "okay to disrespect" that reality.

Everyone, saints and sinners alike, knows that there bad people determined to do bad things, who will only respond to force. And every government hires some version of that force, to police those people and keep them in line. When you see those police are a part of your government, giving force and power to your laws, which make your community function safely and well, then of course you support them.

Clearly that is not how those people see those police. Not when their actions look more like oppressed and powerless people resisting an occupying army. A mindset that sees police that way will not be quickly changed by slogans or posters about, 'Our police deserve respect'. It will take many changes at many levels of society and government both. And it will be years, maybe generations before those small changes add up to, "those are our police, doing what we want done".

Meantime, the people in the uniforms struggle to get their work done (the nastiest part of any government's work). They have multitudes of opportunities to make mistakes that only make things worse, and no time to think through to those consequences. We do, sitting at our 'puters banging off posts. Rushing to be the first to label the 'other' guys with the name you hate doesn't help anyone to make things better. It only makes it easier to see an enemy you refuse to co-operate with, just like the one some people see when the cruisers pull up.

That's not politics, that's trying to be a better human being

We love our Law Enforcement Officers all around this great Country. What took place in NYC with water being tossed on NYPD officers was a total disgrace. It is time for @NYCMayor @BilldeBlasio to STAND UP for those who protect our lives and serve us all so well...

...What took place was completely unacceptable, and will not be tolerated. Bill de Blasio should act immediately!
I am starting to like him with his similar examples of stands for what is right and against injustice. I applaud this. I normally stay away from politics and picking sides however this is commendable.

Maybe people would prefer the cop responding by firing off a clip.

p.s. from what I've seen, at least one of the people has been charged. Nice to see police looking to not escalate a situation.

There is obviously a problem between the police and the community they are policing. It appears the police in Harlem have lost the trust of the community.

What if those 2 cops were very respectful cops and really gave a fuck?

If you abuse people they will eventually abuse and ridicule you.
No surprise.
Did these cops abuse anyone? Is there something that these cops did that led up to this?
Sounds like you might know.
Let me know so I can have a clearer perspective on this.

It appears that from the community’s perspective, if those 2 cops were very respectful cops and really gave a fuck then they would be the rare exception and not the norm on the Harlem police force.

It sounds to me like they were out making an arrest and got a very negative reaction from the local residents. It doesn’t describe what the arrest was for; I suspect that’s not the issue and it’s more about a history of aggressive policing but I dunno.

Well, Nathan88 has a very strong opinion, and he seems to know what these cops did to deserve this.
Or is he of the opinion that even cops that do their jobs properly should be treated like utter shit because of the bad ones?
