Anyone here from US done a Nexus renewal?

I just got the notice my Nexus (Trusted traveler etc) is up for renewal in January. I do not wait till the last minute but will do now.

However, the page you go to after click want to renew (finds my current) says after I apply again I again have to go to Canada for an interview. They already have my eyeball scan - did my eyeballs change. Forget how many years ago I got it.

Just wondering if anyone else has renewed and do you really have to go to Canada for an interview again?

BTW, Nexus does include trusted traveler and was able to use the global access automated system when went to and from Germany (Frankfurt) in June.

Talking to myself.... upon more extensive web searching it seems that when I renew (expires after five years which is up in January 2020) I reapply but it's up to the destination station whether I am selected to have a repeat interview. It appears when renewing you have a 1-year window to use old ID after expires. But if you have to do an interview has to be done within 30 days. So instead of my usual long in advance trip planning, I would have to quickly book a flight to Toronto - but do not want to go up there when it's cold :) Just got back from Germany and going to a Colorado mountain cabin with some friends in early September!

I renewed a couple of years ago. Never had to go back to do any interviews.
The only thing to remember is once the new card comes in the mail, you need to activate it. I was frequently crossing the border and the first time I used the renewed card, I was flagged as not in the system. When I said it was just renewed the guard reminded me to go online. Pretty simple, no issues after that.

Dave, thank you for your thread. I haven't used my Nexus in a while and just pulled it out to check the expiry. I suspect I would get a reminder in the mail but to be safe I just put a reminder in my calendar for early next year to complete the process just like you are doing right now.

Thanks Dave!

If you're a USA citizen...what questions do they ask in the interview on why you want to apply for a NEXUS card?

Having these beats the lines at the border crossings which suck during the summer. All the vacationers' are both places

Renewal does not trigger a second interview etc
They obv flagged you for something (could be minor and just a clarification or could be serious)

Its all online and pretty seamless (act I find renewing a Nexus card is easier than renewing a passport)

I just renewed my passport again about a year ago did in plenty of time (it was to expire just before I went to Germany.

The instructions I found that may be selected for Nexus interview was in general info not related to my account. From reading more it may be just a random certain number get interviewed again.

I don't remember any difficult questions from the initial interview 5 yrs ago. I just travel frequently to Canada and have friends. I think before Nexus asked who/where and I told him the area and street for a friend that I meet on every trip for dinner and meet either at his place or my hotel. Nothing like the interrogation I had years ago at the Victoria BC airport when my name came up and I had to teach them about the Canadian sexwork laws since TER stuff was on my computer. One young agent was so interested I bet he was on TER that night! I was pulled for screening it seems since my name matched someone bad from Florida which I hadn't been to since a kind going to Disneyland. Had no issues on later trips to Toronto and then I got cleared for Nexus and no issues. I haven't even had a traffic ticket in maybe 20-30 years!
