I`ve done a few, roller works OK. Do a good prep, asphalt cold patch and liquid asphalt in a big squeeze jug for any cracks. Do a good clean up on the edges, grass, weeds etc. Get a couple rollers and a long enough, 5 foot pole and enough of the liquid you chose...be generous when you apply it. Last thing ..wear shoes and pants you can throw out, they`ll be a splattered mess.

Did you power wash or just sweep it?

Just gave it a wash with a garden hose on the jet setting on the sprayer. Like any painting, prep is the key. Use a premium product to roll on.

I do mine every 2-3 yrs or so. I like the look of the fresh black driveway. Im sure i can get away with doing it less often but its really really easy so ii dont mind.

Key is Dollartree merchandise. Not even dollarama...go cheaper!.

I start buy using a weed edger to clean up the edges of driveway. I then blast my driveway with leaf blower. No need to wash driveway as you will juat be wasting time waiting for it to dry.

I buy tubs of the airport grade . with a wide paint brush i paint the edges of the driveway. Then with a milk pitcher i pour the stuff onto driveway. With the paint roller and extension pole...its less about rolling it over and more about rubbing it in.

"Airport grade" and "Runway" driveway seal is just marketing fluff.

Ask someone who works at an airport. They don't roll anyting onto the runways :) Also when's the last time you saw a road get driveway seal on it?

Just maintain the cracks and don't seal the driveway.. waste of money. For what you spend in seal, tools, labour, etc... you can replace the driveway every 15-20 years instead. Asphalt is reasonably cheap.

Neighbour always sealed his every year.. another neighbour just ripped his out 15 years later and replaced it. They probably both spent the same. Guess who's driveway looks better? And the new one is completely level without the un-evenness the other one has. Old driveway looks like an old driveway + black paint. New one looks brand new.

Don't roll it on. You'll be doing more work than you need to.

If this is the first time the driveway has ever been done, you'll need more.

Use the tool they sell with the sealants at the store. It looks like a giant squeegee on a broom stick. Spreads a thicker coat of it over the driveway. A roller never gets into the holes and cracks anyway, absorbs way too much of the sealant and isn't big enough to do it efficiently.

Yeah I know the names a gimmick but the stuff is cheap and does the job. And yes the squeegee method is the best but i can produce the same result using a cheap roller and just rubbing it/moving it around.

Ita very cheap to do and i get a fresh look every few years. Probably have spent under 500 for over 10 yrs.

Dont know where you get your quotes on new asphalt driveways but i challenge you to get a quote anywhere under $5k.

Driveway sealer is a gimmick. Two rough looking guys were canvasing the neighbourhood and ringing doorbells to ask the home owners if they were interested in drive way sealing. The sealing material and the sealing work were at a set price per sq. ft., but weed cleaning, prep like power washing and blowing were extra. My neighbour fell for it. The $149. sealing turned into $375 in the end for a $30 bucket of sealer and 2 hours work. I walked my dog around the neighbourhood and saw that about 1 in 4 houses fell for the the driveway sealer scam.
I got a bucket of thick liquid bitumen and filled in the tire dimples in my driveway then put in pro asphalt patch and then applied a sealer on top. The sealer on top is just for cosmetic effect because all it is is a thin layer on top that does not add to the integrity of the driveway. If you have cracks in the driveway they have been caused by ground movement from under the driveway not from the top.
