Having been born and raised in Quebec, I think this is their way of saying: "You no like here, you free to leave".

It's been a month now, I keep waiting for Trudeau to get on his soapbox and lecture the unwashed masses about tolerance and accommodation.

I think Western Canada should separate, especially if Trudeau is re-elected. What do they get from confederation any more? By the time they vote, the election has been decided. Then they have the transfer payments to Quebec, while Quebec shits on them. They can set up some nice toll gates on the Trans-Canada and get their agricultural products moving to China again. Zero downside at this point.
I think the US should make an offer to Alberta and Manitoba, call it North Montana. We don’t really need the oil but it’s the only salvageable part of the GWN.

The question is whether B.C. would join them because Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta do not have a warm water port. With global warming, it might be possible to ship oil from Manitoba using the "Northwest Passage".

It's been a month now since Quebec Bill 21 was enacted into law. What is Justin "The Appeaser" waiting for? He should challenge the law now before the next federal election.

I don't think the PM has standing to challenge the law in Quebec courts. Plenty of other groups have instituted challenges.

p.s. Pretty fucked up that a bunch of guys who support the law are using any excuse to go after the PM simply for political reasons.

Would Ford have the balls to draft the same legislation here in Ontario?

Interesting question. Ford's power base is the 905 where the majority are visible minorities. He would have to do a grassroot analysis first.

What we do know is that Ford, like Quebec, would not hesitate to use the notwithstanding clause which would render Trudeau impotent to stop him.

That's the problem with the modern liberalism, it's timid and lacks principles. Even if our idiot PM would attempt to fight the Quebec law, him and the .lefty morons riding the crazy train would, no doubt, reach for the racism and discrimination cards. Of course this is a freedom of expression/ religion issue and those don't rank very high on the woke scale. Here he is criticizing Trump for slamming the "squad", yet that kind of law would be laughed out of court in America in a New York minute. Plus, Quebecers might be deemed racist by the Liberals, but a vote is a vote... even a racist one.

Good the judge rejected it, hopefully the rest of Canada will follow suit.
What the judge rejected was a request for an immediate suspension of the law. The plaintiffs "failed to demonstrate the urgency required for the court to grant the injunction". The case against its constitutionality has yet to be heard and decided: “It will be up to the parties to act to ensure that the case is diligently heard on merit,” the judge wrote of the eventual legal challenge, “so that the complex constitutional issues raised in this case can be resolved.” That being the case it would be unwise for any other government to wade in, until the matter is more settled.

Besides, no one needs such a useless law anyway. Until the PQ made it a problem, the Quebec National Assembly had a historic crucifix over the Speaker's chair. Thanks to the stubborn bigotry of simple-minds, it's gone; another centuries-old bit of our complex history erased, to placate the stupid.

Either one believes in secularism or not. Everybody in Quebec is still allowed to practice their religion off the job on their own time. Bill 21 is constitutional (notwithstanding clause). That clause was inserted in our Constitution to prevent a tyrannical federal government from imposing on the will of the people.

That pretty much has it backwards. Nothing in that part of the Constitution uniquely applies to, nor limits the federal government. It applies to both federal and provincial levels and every aspect of government activity. It is a constitutionally protected power given to any of those governments to erase Charter rights of the people if and when they choose, by simple declaration.

It was inserted to reassure the established governing classes that nothing really had to change; that the rights of the people was just a catchphrase they could ignore when it suited them. Because without it, the more conservative provincial governments wouldn't sign on.
