Lions are incredibly powerful, although too slow to hunt on their own when they reach maturity.

It's all about power not speed (lionesses are better hunters), not a chance our brave couple would take a shot at these lads.

WARNING not for the squeamish.

Was that dentist from Minnesota who killed Cecil the lion ever heard from again?
Apparently, Palmer the dentist said he is a trained health care professional and he resumed his dental practice.

There is a story of another "hunter" who killed an entire family of baboons. So senseless.

On the other hand they are helping the poor Africans. Most of the shootings are done on the game reserves, are very expensive and contribute hard currency to the local economy. Not unlike the Canadian outfitters who facilitate bear or caribou harvests.

Sure, but there are plenty of ways to help poor Africans if you really want to that don’t involve killing an innocent animal. Plus, I kind of doubt the actual people who really need the money are really seeing much of it. That doesn’t seem to be the way things work over there.

Let’s not kid ourselves here: these people are not philanthropists or conservationalists (despite the laughable claims their website makes). They’re just assholes who like shooting animals and stuffing them so they can show all their equally assholian friends all the “ferocious beasts” they’ve slain. With a high-powered rifle. From a Jeep. From far enough away that they aren’t even remotely in danger.

If these individuals identities become known I'm guessing there will be a little bit of pushback. Something wrong with the killing for "sport" crowd.
They had no choice. The lion came at them with a knife.

[P.s. that's a joke for the irony-deficient]

I think karma will eventually catch up with them just like the people who dressed in KKK hood and robe 30 years ago. They will be social outcasts and forced to resign from their jobs in disgrace.

Hunting industry employs locals just like in Canada. Guides, transportation, hospitality, retail, etc. As long as it's done in the environmentally sound way how is it any different from farm harvesting of meat? If a fool wants to drop 50k to shoot a big cat or a giraffe on a game reservation or a polar bear, so what? Everything living dies, eventually.

If some radical animal activists shoot them I won't be too sympathetic to their plight.

Agree. As long as they are not endangered specie, there is no harm in it. And if they were actually breed for this, then everybody is a winner. Yes, big cats look cute, but why is it different from fishing? Or deer hunting? Some people think hunting for sport is disgusting, some think that paying for sex is disgusting. Who are we to judge?

As a lover of pussy big & small I'd pitch in to bring this lovely couple here on a all expenses paid trip to African Lion Safari & even rent them a car. They deserve a convertible...where the top & windows come down unexpectedly...& fresh steak under the seat in case they get hungry!

Haha are you fresh off the boat or something?
Negative. But I have been on many a flight from Joburg to Miami with many American trophy hunters, who were proud of having executed the BIG 5. I did not, in my naivety, expect Canadians to be as disgusting.

Kevin Richardson - the Lion Whisperer, is a very brave man.

Male lions are more unpredictable than tigers and bulkier. It just shows how far simple utensils can take you. Male lions love the water spray and most of all, the brush.

Why kill such a magnificent animal?

In a place far, far away
Those two people should not call themselves hunters. Hunters eat what we kill.

That is disgusting.
